Do it yourself Lawn Maintainance Pest Control

We have Empire Zoysia grass and Shrubs that come with a new home. Two year old lawn. Can anyone recommend fertilizer and pest control products that I can apply myself ? Rather than pay someone. Thanks!

go to the University of Florida website and they have an agricultural section which is where my husband got info after searching for zoysia grass.

See page 5. http://www.ontopoftheworldinfo.com/p...may14_News.pdf

Phillip writes all year long on what to do with your grass. Look up past issues.

second the idea of relying on research from UF. You may contact Master Gardeners thru the extension office, or best idea, go to plant clinics. see sunday Sun garden section for dates/times.

You might want to get your soil ph tested. If any problems with shrubs and turf, they can identify cause and remedy but need specific samples and photos...for more, contact:

zoysia...if my lawn is any example, let it grow...it's often scalped and cut way too low. doesn't seem to be a fast growing turf...

I use Deans for termite protection, but apply my own perimeter and turf insect control. Deans wanted $80 to $85 per quarter for perimeter treatment. I apply Talstar spray quarterly - ordered from Do Your Own Pest Control. $55 bottle of concentrate will last years versus $320 per year for Deans. No insects after 3 years.

I purchase Lesco combination fertilizer and CrossCheck from John Deere Landscaping in Leesberg.
