Sink hole in NYC

Just to show you, sinkholes can happen anywhere. There was one yesterday in NYC in front of the famous tourist trap Katz's Deli due to a water main break. (On the news last night)

A sub-soil wash out due to a broken water main is not usually called a "sinkhole" and the NYC geology does not consist of the soft limestone that we have in central Florida that is susceptible to real sinkholes. So park you Nyah Nah!.

The hurricane and storm surge zones probably contribute to this....

NYC Hazards: Hurricane Evacuation Zones

Do NYC homeowners routinely buy hurricane and flood insurance?

Excuse me, but what does "So park you, Nyah Nah mean in response to my posting? Just so you know, the news person/anchor called it a sink hole. I know all about the underground in NYC, I was born and raised in NYC/Manhattan, my family still lives there! :)

Erijo,
They did call it a sink hole and there have been many around the USA since the one in The Villages. Pennsylvania, Ohio, NYC, as well as all along the golf coast, so they can happen anywhere! So can earth quakes, hurricanes, etc. I do think that we at The Villages should start a fund to cover all sink holes here. That would make The Villages the best bet in Florida.

No matter where you live, it's never 100% guaranted, that something may not happen.

IMHO - These incidents, represent such a small fracton of the homes in TV, that one would have to be very unlucky, to get a sinkhole. I'm sure the insurance companies are making a fortune over people's fears of a potential catrasphobie, that probably will never happen.

I'm sure someone will post their opinion to the contrary.

I remember when advocating for the use of seat belts, there is always one person, would draw a scenario of, "what if your car caught fire and you couldn't get your seat belt off", so I am not wearing mine. How many accidents happen, as opposed to cars catching fire. Isn't it better to wear one's seatbelt?

You can't rationialize fear!!!

Tkret, if you asked the question, you know it's Howston!
