United Healthcare Medicare Complete

I have seen mention of the United Healthcare Medicare Complete plan in a few posts and was hoping to get your opinion on the plan and whether you would recommend it for a new resident. I currently have Medicare with a United Healthplan supplement which means I pay the Medicare premium, the United supplement plan premium and the prescription plan premium. I'm assuming (?) the medicare complete plan is a medicare advantage plan and is an all-in-one. Your thoughts, comments and attempts to educate me are appreciated. Thank you.

I think it depends on your health issues. I have this plan and so far it has worked for me. I think the biggest thing to consider is if you have to be hospitalized you pay $295 per day for the first 5 or 6 days (I can't remember the exact number of days). So if you are willing to gamble go for his plan. My husband has more serious health issues and we pay about $230 a month for supplement and Rx. I like paying $0.

I agree with the above post - all plans depend on your health needs - we have the United Healthcare Medicare Advantage Plan and it works for us - we have the HMO and use The Villages Health System - so far no complaints!

Remember that in any Medicare Advantage plan there is an annual out-of-pocket maximum, after which the plan will pay 100% of covered expenses for that year. So, there is a level of reassurance.

My wife and I are for the first time forced to buy our own healthcare supplement due to the recently changes in health care laws.

I am afraid this is going to be a long and painful process

I agree it depends on your personal helath. Medical Advantaga Plans are geared towards relatively healthy people. Therefore, they can be cheaper.
unless one needs to be hospitalized.

I have Florida Blue plan that pays all my subscriptions,

If one has a chronic condition, ione mighthave better peace of mind with Medicare with a Supplemental Plan. IMHO

Thanks everyone. One final question - for those of you who have this plan, have you had any issues with finding physicians who will take the coverage in The Villages? Thanks again,

We have had no problem finding a physician that takes the United Healthcare Medicare Advantage - HMO - the web site has a list of physicians or you can call them directly in order to see if a particular physician is in the plan.

I'd suggest visiting one of the SHINE counseling sessions (see Rec News) for sound, unbiased advice. They can help sort out things like cost versus coverage issues for your specific needs. There is no "one size fits all" answer to what the best plan is.

Keep in mind that this is something that shopping based on cost alone is probably a really bad idea. While you may want to minimize your cost, the monthly premium alone is not a good indicator - you have to look at what deductibles, co-pays, etc will come with a specific plan.

SHINE (state related service) will also meet one on one. SHINE - Home
