Bird at "Heron" Course Today
 

Played an early round of golf at "Heron" this morning, and saw these beautiful birds in the water hazard areas, along with a small 'gator (not picture). What a scenic place we live in, eh?

Birders, help me please. The 3rd and 5th are ?? a green heron

Immature turkey buzzard/vulture???

I think from the white stripe on the throat that it may be a tricolor heron.

I think the beak is too long to be a turkey buzzard, gomoho? I'm no expert, but we used to see the turkey vultures on the ground in the upper Keys at a bayfront place.

Oh how wonderful to share those beautiful pictures. Makes me want to be back in TV. I keep praying our house will sell and the my children are praying it doesn't.

Here is a picture of a tricolored heron. I think this is the right identification. Notice the same purple and white on the neck.

As I understand it the tricolor will always have a reddish area on the anterior neck. The eye color on the tricolor is a fairly intense red. The tricolor has the long elegant neck of the great blue or an egret.


The green heron is more squat with yellow eyes and also has a white underside but no red area on the neck.
