The lovechild of a gondola and a golf cart

The future is here! I think I would be pretty nervous in my first ride in one of these!

Technology is here but not the money or the will to do it in our lifetime but on a very limited basis. I think it will be great---could save lots of lives.

I wonder if they can correctly computerize how to navigate roundabouts!

What if a terrorist hacked the system and ran you off a cliff ? or reprogramed the computer as a mini nuke.

To be clear, the system relies primarily on computer vision on the vehicle for driving, not location based on GPS. So if a sinkhole opened in the road ahead of you it would not drive in just because it isn't in the satellite map. I think the technology will be available and cheap enough very soon, the question is will the car companies be willing to shoulder the liability involved in letting their systems take the wheel. A crash avoidance system is one thing, driver replacement is quite another. I think a system that can take over on interstates might be a logical first step. In town driving might be a little ways off.

I'm currently considering a 2015 Subaru Forester which has an safety option called Eyesight.
The SUV has tiny cameras mounted in the windshield.
In the event of an emergency, (like a deer jumping in front of the car),
if the driver is too slow to react or doesn't apply the correct amount of pressure to brake,
the car will take over and make the decison.

The SUV also has a back-up camera and an additional back-up beeper.
Hopefully these take the stupid out of backing up.

Kind of Stepford Wifeish, but it's definitely the way of the future.

If anyone has the Eyesight feature, I'd love to hear their comments.
