USAA insurance and golf carts
We are USAA members and about to purchase our first golf cart.
Just curious - if you are a USAA member, did you insure your golf cart by adding your cart to your USAA auto policy or by a stand-alone golf cart policy through a different insurance company? If so, why? |
Mike and I are USAA members. Our cart is insured through our auto
Policy. We are currently on our third golf cart and each has been insured through the company. |
We are also USAA members. It is ALWAYS better to insure your golf cart through a separate company. You need to be careful in adding your golf cart to your auto policy for language in most auto policies only provide protection to your golf cart when used to and from a golf couse and on the golf course. The use of a golf cart on teh streets or multimodal paths here in TV is quite unique and most insurance comapnies donot understand it. Most use the Village Insurance and they can get you a policy in the $70-90 range or cheaper depending upon what you add to it.
One caveat...if you want Umbrella Insurance with USAA, you can only get it with USAA if all policies are written by USAA OR an affliated company. With reagrd to golf cart policies, my policy was underwritten by Foremost using The VIllages Insurance Company. When I was looking into Umbrella coverage, USAA has an agreement with Foremost and the policy had to meet their underwriting requirments and now shows up on my USAA account...but it is still a Foremost policy. |
I have USAA and insured my golf cart with them under the auto policy.

Another reason: We have our home, auto via AAA. The agent has us insured with progressive because she said if you have a claim (probably small) from a cart, it can count against your whole policy. So the insurance company might drop you from your home owners (which can be tough to get in florida) for some small cart claims. |
Thanks all for your input. Will definitely be making some phone calls and reading the fine print on Monday.
