The Sixties on CNN

Ten-part series on CNN. The first episode was "Television Comes of Age," and it made me smile throughout. Nothing groundbreaking, but it evoked some great memories (shared by many/most of us here, I imagine). All of my teen years were in the sixties, and that decade formed me in so many ways.

Tom Hanks is one of the producers and spoke about everyone gathering to watch The Wonderful World of Color and how amazing and psychedelic all the color seemed to us. My great aunt and uncle were the only ones in my family who had a color TV, so we all drove over there on special occasions. Of course, watching involved a lot of fiddling with the color knobs, which was the job of the kids.

I'm looking forward to the rest of the series!

Loved the show.. highly recommend it.. I remember babysitting and they had the first color TV in the neighborhood.. I couldn't wait for the kids to go to bed so I could be a "big shot" and watch in color..

We had one of the first sets, a huge console cabinet. I think the only shows were Bonanza and the Flintstones. You had to constantly play with the hue buttons to give old Hoss the right rosy glow-LOL.

Seeing the NBC Peacock was a big thing.

Thanks for the reminder. Set to record the series.

Peacock was cool. I usually sat up all night a watched the TV sign off test alignment pattern with the Indian head at the top.

Weren't we all? If you had a TV, you danged well watched anything the 3 networks decided to air. Although my sister was probably the only regular family viewer of The Monkees, hyperventilating tween that she was.

I have surprisingly detailed memories of certain episodes of The Twilight Zone -- some of that scariness burrowed in deep!

Started your career as an iconoclast and comedian at a young age, I see. :)

It's available on demand, I'm watching it right now.
