How to avoid needing a visit to the Hospital ER

I agree with most people who think that The Villages ER should work better so that people don't have long wait times. Especially, for someone reporting chest pains.

Having said that, is there anything we can do ourselves to stay out of the ER in the first place? I think a famous person once said: Ask not what your hospital ER can do for you, ask what you can do for yourself. (Something like that.) :loco:.......:jester:

I would suggest that everyone, especially the elderly, stay properly hydrated and cool in the summer. Don't overexercise in hot weather. Exercise moderately, early in the morning. Eat heart healthy foods and don't overeat. If more people would do these things there would be less people going to the ER reporting chest pains. I believe, most of the time, people have done something to bring it on themselves.

Any other suggestions to keep from clogging up the ER?

I've seen a lot of negative posts about the ER wait time.

How are the doctors once you get in to see them????

(assuming you didn't die waiting)

We are all going to go to the ER at least once. The point is to not make a habit of it.

A friend pointed out that most of the doctors whom you will see at The Villages ER need to travel from Ocala, especially the specialists. She suggested going directly to the hospital in Ocala- Munroe Regional is a good one for heart issues, the other hospital is Ocala Regional Medical Center

Be careful out there.

Due to pre-existing issues I have visited the LSL branch of Lake Regional Urgent Care several times. They do not have evening hours. However, during the day they claim that they can do anything that can be done at the ER at The Villages Hospital. The waiting time is much shorter than going to the ER.

------------

In the spirit of the Original Poster regarding what you can do to avoid the need for trips to the ER, I make this observation.

In about 80% of my trips to LRUC there has been someone in the waiting room who had come directly from the Pickleball Courts where they had injured an ankle or knee.

As Dirty Harry says, you need to know your limitations.

I've got all that chasing after balls out of my system when I was a youngster. These days I won't strive, dive or drive after any balls anymore. I casually find those little ones in my front yard all the time. I bend my knees when I pick 'em up, too.

Learn to drive defensively. Wait a second before going at a green light. Cross the street in crosswalks. Don't climb trees. Stay off of ladders.
