DVRs in The Villages rentals
 

As I look at rentals for TV I See very few DVRs listed.
I know of very few people who don't have one in my circle of friends outside the villages.
Just wondering why it is not a filter item when searching rentals and wonder if villagers really don't have them.
It would be a deal breaker for me and something most renters would expect in such wonderful units.
What do you think? Do you have one?

I suspect the snowbirds take them home with them. I take my tivo on vacations in my rv.

Few rental properties have DVRs. Since the property is usually only rented a few months out of the year and since most renters are almost non-stop busy when down here, it is wasted money for most owners. Most renters just record their programs at home, I suppose. I have known of a few renters who were willing to pay extra to have DVRs and/or sports packages while here and I know that at least Comcast will oblige setting it up for a month or two.

I have a DVD player in both rentals and a DVR recorder in one. Not sure it has added any value. I had one tenant that wanted the DVR and as they rented for four months every year I added it.

My 90 year old mother travels with a small DVR/CD player. It can be connected to a big TV or you can watch it through ithe attached small screen.

She just uses the small screen. She sits the DVR player on the kitchen table and uses it to do her chair exercises. She loves it! I think it cost around $80.

DVD or DVR?

DVR is what I am referring to.
You can't move them like TiVo or DVD players. Snowbirds can't use them back home.
Only the owner can order one. A tenant could not.
Since most of the modern world has one, it becomes almost essential.
Especially true if you are busy. You don't have to stay at home to watch a game and you can zip thru commercials if you are watching on a DVR.

Just ask the landlord/property manager to add the DVR upgrade if they don't have it. It's a few more dollars per month with Comcast and requires a different box from them.

People don't want to pay the $30+ premium per month for the DVR service for their rental properties.

Don't own one - never have. Is there really anything on television that is WORTH DVRing? We find it hard enough to find tv shows worth watching! Much better for us to go out and enjoy life!

We DVr at home and watch when we get back..too much to do when we are in TV.

What about the full time owners?
My guess is most of them have a DVR.
I pay ten bucks a month for mine at home with Brighthouse.
When I rent a place for a month or more, not having a DVR is a deal breaker.
Just sayin'.......if you want to rent your place......having a DVR could make a big difference to many potential renters.
Perhaps not in the past but I believe it will make a difference in the present.
If you don't have one you can not possibly appreciate what I am saying.
But if you do, leave it for the renters and see if it doesn't pay for itself.

Interesting subject that I can add to. We are full time Villagers, but at the moment, we are away. Wife took a travel work assignment in Tucson, AZ where we rented a vacation rental in Saddlebrooke, a 55+ community on a much smaller scale than TV, but very nice and scenic. I would guess that there are the same percentage of winter visitors and full timers here as there are in TV.

Anyway, the rental we have for the three months does not have a DVR, and the owner didn't want to add one, also saying "that most renters don't need it as they are too busy", but said if I wanted it to call the cable company and I could pay him the difference.

I also consider it a requirement, and regarding those who don't think it is necessary, we are all entitled to our opinion, right? Anyway, it became very complicated to add it, so we just watch full episodes of what we want on the internet on our laptop computer. All the television networks have this ability...except perhaps the pay cable channels like HBO, etc. Works well for us as an alternative, but DVR is much better.

We're in TV 7 months, NY 5 months. I don't have a DVR in either home and don't want one. I rarely watch TV other than ballgames if one of my favorite teams are playing and I have no need to record those . It's just not something we're into. We're plenty busy, often too busy doing other things which for us are more interesting.
