1 home lost garage door opener, lights/transformer above kitchen cabinets, lights and transformer below kitchen cabinets, electronic control panel on range. Another home lost microwave, 3rd home being checked and don't know results yet.

Sorry to hear about that. I get more nervous now whenever I hear thunder and lightning because of the Saturday 6-7-14 Lynnhaven strike. Our neighbor was just getting his Prism cable fixed. The strike was nearest my neighbor's house from what I can assume from the extent of the damages.

SECO used to install a "surge protector" at the meter and also provide surge protection adapters for your power outlets for about $280. They do not guarantee lightning protection but it may protect from a nearby strike.

I think everyone should look into the installation of a whole house surge protector and individual ones as well for all electrical appliances and units and if you have gas in your home it might be wise to have lightning rods installed. The homes that burnt to the ground had the gas lines running through the attic. That is code here.

I don't work for any electrical installers and we have had all the rest done but not the lightning rods. We really must do that.

All the homes had the Seco whole house surge protector. The electrician said if they didn't have it, it would have been a lot worse. No TVs or computers were lost because they were also on individual surge protectors. This is the 3rd time Markridge Loop has been hit in less than 4 years. Always the hit has been to the ground between 2 homes. Very weird!

Lightening is very wierd(unpredictable). It strikes were ever it wants to. We had our micro wave, TV and sat. box knocked off in yesterdays storm. No damage it just shut those items down and they had to be re-set. We do have the whole house and individual surge protectors. That probably helped.
BTW it was not a direct hit just lightening in the area.

I do like to watch the lightening storms.
