Music from the Early Sixties

My 50th year high school reunion is this year. To encourage our collective celebration, I put together five playlists on Spotify. Each playlist is 21 songs long and covers the period from 1959 through 1964 (with just a few minor exceptions). Spotify offers both free and premium options. You can listen to my playlists for free. If you do listen, I'd love to know what you think of them

Could you help? I downloaded spotify on my iPad and when I click on one of your playlists' songs, spotify opens but how do I get your song to play?

I always think of the period from 1960- 1963 as an extension of the 1950s, musically.

To me, what we've come to know as the sixties began on Feb 9, 1964.

This is the British Invasion period but there was much more to the Sixties for many of us. For example, the early sixties were a peak period for Motown. It was an era when instrumental hits were quickly becoming a thing of the past. With some of these influences coming together, I offer this up for your enjoyment: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAH1czGE-fw]the rolling stones - 2120 south michigan avenue - stereo edit - YouTube[/ame]

I was a Stones' fan early on in your version of the sixties and didn't begin to enjoy the Beatles until Revolver and Rubber Soul. I assume you play and hope to hear you someday once we get to actually spend more time in TV.

Here is a shot of my college band back in 1966. I am on the Hammond. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=3&theater

I apologize but I am not an Apple user. Hopefully some one else can give both of us the answer.

I felt I was was in a musical void in the early sixties compared to the fifties. I found myself tuning into the R&B stations to fill that void. Then came the Rolling Stones, the Yardbirds, Eric Burdon, Paul Butterfield, etc. From then on the sixties rocked.

Like you, I preferred the middle/late sixties with everyone you mentioned plus the Rascals, Blood Sweat & Tears, Led Zeppelin, Cream, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, the Blues Project, Vanilla Fudge, Simon & Garfunkel, Righteous Brothers, etc. I still have fond memories of both the fifties - when I wasn't yet a teenager but still captivated by the music - and early sixties since so many of the songs are tied to great high school memories and friends.

On 2/22/64 "I Want to Hold Your Hand" knocked Bobby Vinton ("There I've Said it Again") off Number 1 on the Billboard Top 40. There was the sea change in popular music. Before that it was Bobby Vee, Fabian, Frankie Avalon, well you get my point.
