Does The Villages have termite problems?
I have lived here only a short time in Hemingway. I always see MASSEY trucks with termite control written on the side of them. Does The Villages have any termite problems. My home is 6 years new, so should I look into this?
Please share your thoughts. Thanks, LUVNLIFE |
A post from earlier this month

Massey didn't cover me for them when I purchased my home a year ago. They only suggested subterranean termite protection. Massey is saying I should tent my house and fumigate. This takes 3+ days and will cost over $2,000. I really don't want to do this. Has any Villager witnessed or undergone a house tenting in The Villages? Any 'do-it-yourself' solutions out there? Suggestions and comments gratefully received. |
Probably what you are seeing is Massey doing its yearly termite inspections for those who contract with them for termite protection. In two years of being on this forum, I have heard of very few termite problems.

This is Florida. Florida is a subtropical climate and termites thrive here. A termite protection plan from Massey or any of the other "bug" companies is an insurance plan. You may never need it but if you do, you will be glad you bought it.
Do you have any other pest protection plan on your home such as for ants or other crawling insects? Again, a good idea. |

Odysseus's last post on the subject was that the termites came from a chair he/she bought in a consignment shop. He threw it out, the termites are gone. I think it wise to continue the termite protection that is applied on a new home and is good for at least five years. |
Like Buggyone said -- this is Florida. Besides us -- termites like to live here. At some point, we all will have termites; that is fact of life, like it or not.
Generally speaking, you won't see any sign of termites for many years. Yes -- of course, there are always exceptions. However the price you will pay for inspections and /or what you think might be a preventative, is probably much more than it would cost to treat the problem when it finally happens. |

Please stop with the blue font. It is unreadable and painful to look at.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Not a fan of the font but your dog is adorable :) |
Are those blue font postings already a termite protection (well, it works for me!)?
