Woman at pavilion incident wants jury trial

It seems like I read about this several days ago and I thought it was over and done with. But last night I heard about it again from, of all places, a California talk show. And the host of the show said that the woman is asking for a Jury trial.

The woman and her lover were charged with having an "intimate" encounter at the Market Square Pavilion.

You may consider this to be too negative and not want to talk about it, but if they are talking about it in California, and the show is broadcast nationally, it may become a bigger than expected story.

This may actually be good publicity for The Villages because it provides further evidence of how we are an active adult community.

What California show?

She is entitled to a Jury Trial if she wants one. About 50% it seemed of the Jury Pool I was in on May 19, 2014 at the Sumter County Court House was from the Villages or seemed to be from what they were saying. I was summoned for Jury Duty in April of 2014 so I was in the Jury Pool for a case that the defendant plead guilty for avoiding the Jury Trial. The Honorable Circuit Judge Michelle Morley said that this plea saved the court 16 weeks of docket cases. http://www.circuit5.org/c5/judges-an...circuit-judge/

Maybe, she wants to plead his case in front of Villagers? Her Judge is supposedly The Honorable Thomas D. Skidmore. http://www.circuit5.org/c5/judges-an...-county-judge/

The talk show I referred to is "The Andy Dean Show". It's on from 7 to 9 pm. and is broadcast out of California.

I think she claims that too much is being made of what happened. And that may be true. To ask for a jury trial, she must be confident of winning. I wish her good luck.

What if someone actually did something like that and then claimed in court that it represents "freedom of speech."

The next time I think of starting a thread I'll check with you first.

We all view events through different lenses. In my view this story is getting attention because it happened in a retirement community and The Villages to boot. This sort of thing happens everywhere. I view the attention as very negative and bad for this community. why aren't these news station/papers talking about the charity work being done by residents, the mentoring, etc.

It is running along the same lines as Blechmann's Leisureville.

Anyone taking pleasure in this incident is doing the people involved a disservice as well as this community because clearly 99.99 of the residents of this community are good human beings.

People pushing this agenda themselves have some serious problems.

She would be right in saying too much is being made of this.

Freedom of speech? Guess that depends what was being said, did she recite the Emancipation Proclimation? I'd go with my constitutional right to operate a theater.

It's her right to ask for one..according to other stories she's obtained the services of a lawyer and I'm guessing the mouthpiece thinks the chances are better with a jury. Why does anybody here care?

That is a good point. This story was hashed over many times on the other thread and now we have new one so all those folks can repeat their guesses here. Who cares is right!

And posters are concerned it is getting natipnal attention and the Andy Dean show is mentioned. Here is an interesting fact about this show.
Dean’s program airs nationally in Premiere Radio Networks syndicated ‘Big 4’ lineup with Glenn Beck (9AM-12PM-ET), Rush Limbaugh (12-3PM-ET), Sean Hannity (3-6PM-ET), and Dean (6-9PM-ET).[

If you think you'll lose with only a judge, you ask for a jury. Maybe enough of the other residents of The Villages will be sympathetic to her cause. O.J. Simpson was freed because he got a jury that didn't buy the prosecution's presentation, which was pretty inept. I've also read that The Villages is No. 1 nationally in STDs per capita. Any proof of that?

Sometimes it seems that the only way we know who we are is by listening to those who carefully craft our image. We are told that we are The Friendliest Hometown, The Healthiest Hometown, the most charitable hometown, and the wealthiest hometown etc. And all of that has to be defended, that's the true agenda: Defending an image.

I say, "we are who we are and no one has to prove anything." We are a cross section of America, period.

Very well said as usual. Let's stop this junior high school playground fascination with two people who have problems. They are not typical of the Villages and I resent this lopsided, prurient portrayal of us. Don't buy into it.

I care because I live here. It's embarrassing. When I first talked of moving here, a lot of friends and family talked of the STD "study"......that was embarrassing as well.

Why do folks feel sorry for this woman?? She chose to remove her clothes in public. She chose to perform sex in public. She chose to drink and drive. So now she's choosing to have a jury which will bring further attention to TV......before too long its gonna be discussed on all the talk shows.

By your name it appears that you do not live here....well I do and its embarrassing......so don't ask why we care.

Hi VillagesPLThe Friendliest Hometown and Healthiest Hometown are marketing slogans charitable hometown actions support that claim. Wealthiest depends on one's definition of wealth.

speaking from corporate point of view never never would i stand by and let others craft my image. Listening to others concerning criticism about self is a good thing but requires a few rules such as many people leveling the same criticism about you. another is the people themselves (i.e what motivates them?) turning to the hyperbole about The villages scandal just look at who is leveling this criticism and how many actually are.

Again I do not appreciate people who go out of their way to humilate other people. This woman needs counseling and she needs encouragement from friendly people and ridicule
