Computer Does Not Shut Down Correctly

HP Media Center Running XP I follow the normal shut down routine and

half the time the computer never turns off. I can turn it off by holding

the start button in. It will then start properly. It operates ok.

Any ideas ????

Have you ran a good anti-virus software?

I've used Scott Wilcox "Tech Heads" 352-461-5164 on a couple of occasions and have been very pleased with his service. He comes to the house and gets things squared away for a very fair price.

I do not remember how, but I believe there is a way to force a startup in SAFE mode. Try that, it will reload drivers that may be damaged. If your shutdown works OK, then go to the normal boot process. If the shutdown works, great you fixed the problem. If it does not, as mentioned before, do a virus scan. If you know how to use Task Manager, you can take a look and see what is running just before you get ready to shut down, and see if there is anything suspicious.
If any or all of this is confusing, there is a computer club in the villages, and I believe that they help fellow villagers with PC problems.
Hope this helps.

Just because I can I would run a defrager, cleaner (https://www.piriform.com/defraggler) and virus software.
If that failed I would try going back to a restore point (use help for instructions).

My thoughts exactly. Run malwarebytes and defrager and you should be good to go. Let us know if you have further problems though.
