As women age, what is the thing we miss LEAST about our youth???

Ladies--

I read the posts about what we miss most--and (Sigh!) :agree: with everything noted.

On the other hand, I DON"T miss many things about my own youth...I know some of these are peculiar to me. I don't miss worrying so much about others' approval. I don't miss guarding everything I say (though I do still try to be consistently diplomatic and courteous). Although I loved my babies and eagerly anticipate grandchildren, I don't miss runny noses and the didn't-get-my-nap late afternoon crankiness, much less the drama of the teen-aged years. I don't miss the acne that plagued me on and off until menopause!!! And I don't miss the 20-something dread of being middle-aged.

What do you miss LEAST about your youth?

The black and whiteness of my world. I still take things too seriously at times but not like I did. I finally understand that there truly are some grays in this world and not everything is right or wrong.

I was extremely literal. At least now I understand a pun or two.

I guess I was lucky. I did cry when I hit 13. I knew I didn't want to be a teenager -- saw too much angst and drama with my brother and classmates. I liked my 20s. I LOVED my 30s -- that was when I truly looked my best. Opinions of others truly have never mattered to me ... as long as I felt what I was doing was right, that was that. (There are advantages to having aspergers -- not many, but some.) I really wasn't too fond of my 40s. Started gaining weight, Jess was a teen (YUCK!). The 50s are what they are. Gut feeling says I'll like the 60s.

I don't miss highschool! I was the skinny, shy girl with glasses. It was a tough time, would not want to relive those years. I kind of like where I am now ... old!

Braces on my teeth, garter belts, and sitting home waiting for that "special" phone call!

Oh yes and being told what I can and cant do, that never went over real big altho I was an obedient child, I boiled inside.

Remember those horrible girdles that covered all the areas that Spanx cover now, but they had sooo many stays and rubber and I don't know iron bands that when you put them on you quit breathing for like forever...All that I must have weighed 116 lbs tops and at 5'7" that wasn't bad. I didn't go anywhere without that girdle. Why? :dontknow: Thank goodness they went out of style about a year or so later.
Funny we went from girdles to hippies http://www.millan.net/minimations/smileys/hippie3.gif in just a few short years.

Susan - Your post made me laugh. I too struggled into a horrible rubber girdle for years, I probably weighed 108 at the time. I also tottered around on 3 inch heels for years and years. Hard to imagine we did that to ourselves.

I'm so happy women our age now feel free to be comfortable.

Nonie, you got rid of your garter belt??? Whatever for??? lol ;) Anyway, what I miss LEAST about my youth is being "forced" to learn. I love to learn and will continue to do so for the rest of my life. But I never liked being "forced" to do anything. And it's just become more and more important to me as years go on. I have what I call "Decade Rules" for myself. It started when I turned 40. I make a list of things I positively won't do just because it's politically correct or because I might hurt Aunt Tilly's feelings or for whatever reason. Every decade I add more and more things I won't do, and more and more toxic people I won't associate with. Now that I turned 60 a month ago, you can bet this list is pretty long. But, I also feel happier, more content and completely free to enjoy my husband, my family, my true friends and most of all myself. Anyone who really loves me understands, I won't go to their kid's weddings, or kid's shower, or kid's kid's birthdays. Been there, done that, bought the T-shirt, and am not going back again. B-O-R-I-N-G!

:agree:
There is something empowering about being old enough to skip the things you would have felt "obligated" to do.
