New Florida Drivers License

When you apply for a new Florida Drivers License, are you required to give up your current state drivers license or is it dependenent upon the state you are comming from. Are you required to take a drivers road and written test ? I currently have a Va license.

We recently obtained Florida Driver's Licenses.

Cost $25.25 each (like the song)
No tests - just show them your existing license
They will issue a "Florida Only" license if you specifically request it and you can keep your existing license in force and the Florida license is only good in Florida
They print it up while you wait
My wife's has our CA address on it while mine has our Florida Address (we used different clerks)

You need a Florida license to obtain Florida Auto insurance - to get a Florida license plate you need your out of state title and Florida Auto Insurance (and about $150)

We came from Virginia which has reciprocity with Florida. No test. Surrendered our Virginia license as we are permanent residents. Registered to vote. Great system.

No tests. Be sure to bring a birth certificate or passport. If you come from Michigan and 5 other states. These states do not require proof of residency when applying for the original license.

Hi, when we went the only requirement was an eye test.

While we were there, they did background checks on people who wanted a license and also to check if the license you were presenting them, from another state, was valid or had any red marks.

It was easy peasy for us to get a Florida License, we just applied (in Wildwood) and did the eye test. No other tests required. They looked at our Canadian drivers licenses but we certainly didn't have to surrender them.

Sort of surprised that Fla will issue driver's licenses to non-US citizens, but if you think about it, it probably doesn't make that much difference. Anyone checking on the Fla license thru law enforcement channels would be made aware the citizenship of the holder (unless Canada issues licenses to who ever applies too)?
