Window film enclosed lanai
 

Considering The Solar Guys window film for enclosed lanai to cut down on heat build up. Has anyone done the same and if so, do you think it has helped?

We used 3M for our entire house, including our enclosed lanai. We also had our car windows done. I highly recommend 3M; I don't know how good the SG's film is.

We put film on our southwest facing windows here in Ohio and it cut about 4 degrees off our a/c load.

I had it installed by SG in 2012 on my 2 front bedroom(den) windows that face South. I'm sure it helps somewhat but I can still feel the heat through the window and this room is warmer than the rest of the house. I think the sun is just too intense here. Maybe if it was taken off the windows and it got extremely hot, I could then say "Oh, I guess it was helping." It does provide some shading. I hope other people who had this brand(not 3M) applied will reply.

Interesting.....is it applied to the inside or outside of the windows?

Our neighbors are having problems with birds banging into tinted glass. Apparently the bird thinks another bird is coming at him through the reflection, when in reality its his own reflection, and POOF!!!!

In most cases Huper Optik window film is applied in the same manner as traditional window tints, to the interior side of the glass. There are some rare cases where film needs to be applied to the exterior of the window, such as when the interior side of the window is textured. I have had the Huper Optik film installed by Solar Guys on the east facing windows and slider on my CYV approximately 18 months ago. I like the way it cuts down on the sun glare coming thru the house and feel that it does help cut down on my AC costs during the summer months.

Solar Guys were very professional in their install and think they have a great product. We had them install 3 solar tubes and a solar attic fan and were very happy with their products and again, the level of professionalism in their work.

Can the film be successfully applied to acrylic?

Window film can be applied to acrylic panels successfully, but usually a reputable company will discourage it. The reason is that once applied and cured, window film can't be removed from acrylics and so are absolutely permanent, so if there was incidental damage to the panel or some defect or debris trapped underneath, the entire panel would have to be replaced instead of just the film. Also, acrylic materials are not impermeable like solid glass so they allow small amounts of air to pass through over time. This will inevitably cause small bubbles to form under the film after a year or so and leave an unsightly appearance no matter how high quality the materials used or how expert the installer. So while film can be applied to acrylic, the end results usually would leave both the customer and the installing company with less than satisfactory results.

2. The film on the lanai cuts down glare a lot and helps with cooling, but our room is basically an uninsulated glass box, so it's still gonna be hot.
