WW II - "the Hump"

My brother in law will be visiting later this week - do we have any one here that was involved with flying the hump? I'm not sure what he actually did but it had something to do with "the hump"

Re: WW II - "the Hump"

I believe flying over "the hump" was going from India/Burma with war cargo over the Himalayas to China.

Your brother in law must be in his mid eighties if he was involved with those flights.

My father was in the Air Corps during that time but was in North Africa and Italy. I think he went to flight school in Texas with some of the Humpers

The "hump" was none other than the Himalayas over which they were flying. Can you imagine those conditions? Your brother-in-law has had quite an impressive experience and should have some great stories to tell.

There is a wonderful group in TV called The Airplane Hangar Flyers. They are pilots of every kind. And there are some WWII among them I think. They meet in the historic section in the Paradise Recreation Center (I think that is the name of it.) The meetings are on the 3rd Saturday of the month at 10:00 AM. The recreation department or the Virginia Trace site should give you all the information. If he will not be in town during the time of the meeting, I am sure you could call the contact person for the club and get him connected on a more informal basis. They are a really friendly group and they love to talk about flying. Your brother-in-law would certainly have a lot to add to the mix.
