That's amusing Muncle even if I am a Democrat and am leaning towards voting for Barack Obama. We will see though. I do not have a good idea what Senator Obama would even do if elected to be US President.

He is very hard to pin down on exactly what his positions are and if he will stay with them. http://www.votesmart.org/npat.php?can_id=9490

Tal, with your misgivings, why are you leaning towards Obama?

I do not want 4 or 8 more years of hearing about William Jefferson Clinton and wondering what he might be doing with each new group of interns. :joke: Also, think that it is a two-for-one deal with Hillary Clinton. If you vote for Hillary Clinton, you also vote for William Jefferson Clinton.

I liked a lot of what Barack Obama wrote in his books. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barack_Obama

I do not know that much about what John McCain will do with the White House to vote for him yet as have not read any books by him.

I don't know, Tal. The stain on Monica's dress pales in comparison to the thousands of lives lost in Iraq. Wait..is that tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands? BTW, I'm a lifelong Republican.

I hung around with an Iraqi librarian from the University of Mosul while I attended Denver University back in 1983-1984. He was a great guy except for I could not meet his wife and she had to stay in another room while I visited his apartment, he kept making asinine Kurd jokes, and he hated a great deal of little aspects of US pop culture.

We talked a lot about the Iran-Iraq War http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran-Iraq_War which was raging at that time and he kind of sounding like if he were not studying librarianship at DU for his MA in Librarianship he would be fighting the Iranians in the marshes along with his countrymen.

I just do not know if any easy solution or even difficult one will work with Iraq. It is just so hard for so many Americans to comprehend just how many Iraqis think.

My friend from Mosul hung around with a small group of other Muslims who attended DU. These men and women were from different Middle Eastern countries and their attitudes and opinions differed quite a lot from my friend's on the war in Iraq in 1983-1984, women, and US culture.

My friend from the U of Mosul in Iraq talked a lot about the human wave attacks during the Battle of the Marshes in 1984 which I still cannot comprehend. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Marshes It sounds so medieval to me in outlook.

What a poor comparison....Clinton's pornographic antics and our US troops fighting in Iraq so you can maintain your freedom to do so!

Shame on y'all.

Dislike the war but please be a little considerate of those who are serving their country.

I think it is cruel to use an infant to make a political statment.

Have no idea how your logic comes into play here? No one made a comparison with William Jefferson Clinton's antics and the fighting in Iraq which seems to have been going on since before Jesus Christ walked the earth. Samhass made a CONTRAST which is exactly the opposite of a comparison. My point about the Iraq war and our troops was that many Americans do not know the mindset of many Iraqis and Iranians. Neither of us made any disparaging remark about our troops.

It disgusts me when someone says you disrespect the troops because you disagree with the war in Iraq. That is total BS. My heart breaks for our troops in Iraq. Every casualty, head injury and maiming our troops suffer is an abomination. Yes, we should have gone into Afganistan. Iraq? No way. Saudi Arabia...maybe. Oh, wait, they're our "buddies".

If the conflict in South America heats up and the US jumps in, where will we get the troops to deploy?

I'm very pro military. My father was career military and gave me a life most would envy through that career. He fought in two wars -- WWII and Korea. My brother did three tours in Vietnam. Not because he believed in the war, he didn't. He simply felt that if he was there he could save the lives of some of the men under him, some that would die following other men. I'm sure if he were still alive and young enough to serve, he would have jumped into the fray in Iraq as well and probably with the same hatred of war he had in Nam.

I'm with Sam. We needed to be in Afghanistan. More importantly, we should have traveled right into Pakistan when al Queda kept right on moving. It might have made sense to attack much of Northern Africa since they did and do in fact have several al Queda and their ilk training camps.

Going to Iraq made no sense. It was obvious to many that there were no WMD there and much quicker to most than it was to our fearless leaders. The only reason I could ever come up with for us to be there was it was a way to get some oil fields at the cost of our troops. That, to me, is an obscene reason to be in a war. It's like stealing candy from a baby but you have to kill some youths to get that candy.

As to where will we get the troops if we go fight in South America, well, maybe it's time for the draft to come back.

Bless our troops -- all the men and women who serve our country. Damn the leaders who send them into harm's way with no good reason.
