Low speed vehicle insurance
Hi Folks,
I live in Broward county Florida, planning on moving to the Villages next year, I have had my EZ GO 2FIVE for 2 years now and love it, but the insurance is crazy, i currently have Geico with my cars (35 years) but they wont insure my LSV, I have policy with Safeco for LSV , Policy up for renewal and now they want 800.00 for 6 months! crazy money! my record is clean! working on lowering the policy numbers, still looking at 1000 a year, just looking for some info on other companies that insure even if i have to add my personal cars to get good rates for all , also what is recommended for the minimums, bodily injury? property damage? pip- basic!!! uninsured motorist- ??????? Needed??? comp? collision? I figured if anyone knows about carts and LSV's, it is u all!!! thanks!!! Jim |
A LSV is insured like a car...it can be driven on all roads subject to all risks, and think about it, very little safety features for protection compared to car. Thats why you are paying outrageous rates.
|
and that extra 5 mph is worth all that extra $$$$$??
At 60 mph at the end of one hour you will have gone 5 more miles.....AT 60 MPH!!!!!!!! So when one is going 10 miles at 25 mph vs 20 mph is it really worth the registration, the insurance and the risks. For most of us the answer is absolutely not. But if it is something one needs and money is no object then have a ball. |

an lsv is insured as a second car.

Get a golf cart and insurance will be under $100.

There is no political lobby to correct this problem, like there is with motorcyclists. Only solution is to convert back to golf cart. Costs about $100. That is what I did. |
lsv carts are far safer than golf carts. ie 4 wheel hydraulic breaks/roll over protection/wipers/heavier chassis etc etc etc. rv roadie has the right idea. convert to golf cart for insurance purposes and retain all the safety features of the lsv.
|
For some reason I dont believe any or all the safety features they can or do put into a LSV would matter if you collide with a full size moving vehicle on the road. The same reason I dont drive a motorcycle.
The best safety feature of a golf cart is that they are limited in speed and moreso limited from driving on public roadways. |
According to the POA Bullentin there have been 12 deaths in golf carts in the last 6 years. It may actually be safer in a LSV. Insurance is out of line for a LSV IMHO.

One death (or injury) is tooo much, but the number of Golf carts vs LSVs in TV is very relevant to your comaprison.
