Donation pick up for Wildwood Elementary

Wildwood elementary school is accepting donations of clothing, school supplies, backpacks, and paper goods. The following is a list from last year, of school supplies and paper goods needed.

Students are required to wear uniforms and here is the link describing the uniform.

Donations may be dropped off at the school or for donations costing $25 or more, I will come pick them up. You may PM me with your address and phone number and I will call to arrange a time.

School starts August 7. Staff is now available in the office from 7 AM to 3 PM Monday through Friday. Location 300 Huey St.

Ages of students range from four to about 12. The little ones benefit from Velcro shoes, as they can't tie them yet and extra undies, as they can't keep them dry yet.

Thank you, my goodhearted, generous and loving community.
Kitty
Ps read uniform policy carefully for specifications before you shop.

I downloaded the pdf's in your links to my desktop for future reference. Thanks for the information, Kitty.

I also read the training manual for the volunteers that someone posted, and it scared me! I was never a teacher and don't know if I would be savvy enough to guide a young child. I may just have to be the continual donator.

Publix

Publix is currently having its sale on school supplies. Many items like crayons, scissors, notebooks, pencils etc. are bogo, so you can buy twice as much.

So is Walmart. They have some really inexpensive things like composition tablets for 17 cents. A friend told me she went last year to Target and bought a bunch of their close out shoes for the kids. No Tax days are August 1,2 and 3.

I read something about that at the library once. That would probably be more my level--reading to kids or having them read to dogs. (I'm serious, not joking.)

I know you are not joking. Just paying attention to them and making them feel special matters a lot. I remember that from when I was a tiny twerp. (Not a twerk..)
I'll ease in the idea of canines for literacy when it seems right....

Thank you Kitty for your address. My order is on its way, may be in two shipments. It was very easy...Walmart online...childrens uniforms...paid using Paypal...done. Hope other snowbirds will donate. I am not a well to do, raised 3 children myself, still unable to retire at 71, next year. I was so inspired by Msg. Hugh Marren, a dear friend, of Atlanta GA. A true Christian, always fundraising for the people, especially for the children. Direct contrast to his Bishop, who build a 2 mill mansion for himself with money left to church from the Mitchell estate (Gone with the wind Mitchells).

And thank you slipcovers, and others who have donations being prepared.

If anyone would like to donate but doesn't want to do the shopping, you may post what kind of things you're interested in donating and I will shop for it.

Thank you Kitty for spearheading this project! The Village Parrotheads have a similar effort underway called Project Backpack and will be collecting items at the Phlockings for both Wildwood and Fruitland Park Elementary Schools thru August.

There are also many volunteer opportunities to reach out to these schools and help in the classrooms throughtout the school year. The Daily Sun recently had an article about the Tudors for Kids organization seeking more volunteer Tudors for the upcoming year. My wife became involved with them last spring and really enjoyed working with Ms. Miller's 4th grade kids at Fruitland Park. Here is the contact info for anyone interested:

Walmart web site problems

I have been trying all day, both on IE and Firefox, to get on Walmart's web site. I got so far as placing items in the cart, but when I went to check out and pay, the site froze up. I just tried to get on again and got a message that the site is very busy, and they would take me to their site eventually.

This will not be a good idea if you go to pay and the site freezes up. Just a FYI. I am going to wait till late tonight and try again.

by the way, most of the interesting boys briefs in sizes 6 & 8 are sold out, except for the Hanes plain white. Bummer.

Oh happy day! Thanks to those who've shopped and donated!

Tomorrow, aug. 1, starts the 3 day tax holiday on clothes and school supplies, and we have another week before school starts, so there is still time.

Hopefully next year we can do this in all areas of The Villages with collection boxes at rec centers.

What a wonderfully generous community! Thanks to all of you who are helping the little ones.

Lucky me, I get to see a lot of what's being donated. Thanks to Maureen a.k.a. slipcovers for the shipment of polo shirts and khakis. Still waiting for the little underwear package to arrive. And have the pleasure of meeting you good folks.

I will deliver the first lot of donations on Wednesday, August 6. Anyone who would like me to pick up their donations before then, please PM me so I can take yours on that day.

Special thanks for great response from Hemingway!
Dave n sue, I didn't know how cute these little undies could be. Girls get sweet pastels and guys get superheroes, the nurse will flip over all these package. And hey, lots of neon velcro shoes.
Awesome.
Heartwarmed,
Kitty

Bell's has lots of underwear in boys and girls size 4, which apparently they need at the school. And their web site is working fine. Free shipping for $50 and no tax right now. A little pricier than WalMart, but lots of cute stuff.
