Independent Film at Old Mill Playhouse

Since this is not about a particular movie, I decided to use general discussion area. I mentioned in TOTV before that at least one screen devote itself to small indie films, foreign films etc. which appeals to older audience. I am so glad that it did happen at Old Mill Playhouse. To support this concept, we went to watch first such showing. We enjoyed "50 to 1". I hope others will join and watch this film so that management will repeat this performance with other similar low budget good movies. It was Tuesday at 4:30 showing and I was very pleased that there were enough couples watching even in such odd hours. I am now hoping foreign films also be shown. If profitable, management will do it again with films not for national showing but for limited release. My wish is that we may have Film Festival once a year as I have attended in DC, NYC, London, Tokyo.

They have had film festivals in the past at the Old Mill Playhouse. A Hitchcock one and one for various Independent Films.

I liked 50 to 1 too. Just saw it at 1:10 PM this Saturday. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/50_to_1/

If you like Independent films- there is an Independent Film Club that shows movies the first and third Sunday ( on the other weekends foreign films are shown) at 1 pm at the Mulberry Rec Center. Membership is a nominal fee and the movies are free.

Just read about the club in the recreation news. Thanks for letting us know about it. We plan on joining tomorrow.

great idea but theaters are controlled and leased (for lack of a better term) by distributors. The owner of the theater cannot control which movies come and go.
Certain movies can overstay their contract because ticket sales are booming and both the owner and distributor agree to that.
Fact is TV has the second longest running distribution for a single theater in the country. The longest running one is in Texas.
Ownership of theaters is very difficult.
In LA and NY and other cities privately owned theaters open and they somehow negotiate with classic film distributors to show their films. Again at a high cost to the owner.
