Hair and Weather
My 90 year old mother gets her hair done every week when we are here in Michigan.
Last week, her hairdresser mentioned that all of her client's hair is growing extremely fast this summer. She said she had never seen anything like it in the 40 plus years that she had been doing hair. She wondered if it might be a sign that we are going to be in for another brutal winter. i sure hope not! |
Could it be the fertilizer runoff in the drinking water? Think Chia pet!
Hope it's not a sign of a bad winter. |
Don't you have brutal winters more than every 40 years?

More likely, as it is summertime, people are eating more fresh, raw fruit and veggies, drinking more water and spending more time in the fresh air and sunshine. A healthier routine can facilitate hair growth.
Human hair growth is more connected to nutrition, blood flow, hormones and metabolism than to weather conditions. In a healthy person, hair grows (on average) about a quarter inch a month. A VERY OLD ploy… is, hairstylists/barbers telling people that their hair grows faster than most other clients. More often, the case is that the haircut is purposely left a bit long- or irregular so that people must return sooner/ more often to have it cut, thus generating more income for the stylist. This demonstrates lack of knowledge (on the part of the stylist) about the fundamentals of hair (or engineering a proper haircut) at best- Lack of integrity at worst. Human hair growth is in no way a portent of a bad winter to come. ( I'm a retired barber/stylist.) |
