E-Notification Changes to Recycle CLEAR BAGS ONLY

Changes to Recycle: CLEAR BAGS ONLY! NO TINT

The light blue clear bags are no longer being accepted at the recycle transfer station. They require all recycle material be in CLEAR BAGS without any tinting.

We understand that residents may have purchased the light blue clear bags so in order to help deplete your stock; light blue clear bags will be accepted temporarily for household trash. Please go back to the white or black bags for your household waste once you have used up the light blue clear bags

Residents may have read the “Our Place” article regarding yard waste a few months ago or viewed the article on the District web site. District staff would like take this opportunity to remind residents to please bundle (tie) yard waste and cut tree limbs so they are no longer than 4 feet.

For more detailed information, please visit the District website at Sanitation Information

or call (352) 748-0109 for additional information.

Thanks for the info. Was wondering why they wouldn't take the blue one this week.

This does not appear to impact residents of Town of Lady Lake & Lake County

The FAQ of the site you provided states "The following Frequently Asked Questions relating to sanitation information pertain only to those residents residing in Sumter and Marion counties. For those residents residing in the Town of Lady Lake or Lake County, please contact Waste Management at (352) 787-4416 for information on your sanitation pick-up and fees."

I was never notified of this. I wondered why my recycling was not picked up last week but was picked up by the garbage collection. Usually they pick up recycling in our neighborhood around 7 am. I thought that was strange that the recycling was not picked up.

I'm in Marion County and in all our years here we never used anything but clear bags, we were always told those wee the ones we had to use. Interesting!

We have a house in Mallory and have always used clear bags for recycling. It was our understanding that was the requirement since we've owned the house.

We have always used the clear bags for recycling and I appear to be one of the few in our neighborhood who cuts the yard recycling to the required length. Maybe if the guys would leave the huge piles of branches, etc. people would get the message.

Winn-Dixie sells the blue bags...they say in large print they are recycling bags but it's not "clear" that they have a blue tint. I bought some about a month ago and didn't realize til I got home and opened them that they were tinted. I called the recycling office and they said no go. Fortunately, I was able to return them to WD for a refund.

Now that WD is in LSL and Pinellas, they are getting a broader audience...they really shouldn't even sell these blue bags in an area where they are not allowed.

Is it permissible to ask why the color of the plastic bag matters? I ask because the recycled material in the bag includes a variety of different colors of plastic and one might assume that the plastic bags are also included in the recyclable mix.

Yes, Hancle; I'm with you. What is the big deal with the color or type of bag for recycling?

Here's where I'm coming from: We, the residents, are doing our sanitation company a favor, by recycling. I am a huge proponent of recycling. BUT . . . we have to buy a specific type of bag for recycling??? Within the Villages, if 50,000 homes must use these plastic bags, do you know what it is doing to our landfills and the environment? Our sanitation company makes money with the recycled materials we give them. We are doing them the favor.

Waste Management gives their customers recycling bins and we have to purchase special bags!!?! There's something wrong with this picture???

The bags are recycled along with the contents, not put in a landfill.

As another poster said the bags contain recycle material of all COLORS which makes it rather ridiculous that the bag holding the material has to be clear!, but that's just my opinion!:sigh:

mulligan 08-06-2014 06:19 AM

The requirement is only so that the people that pick up the bags can see what's in them.
