We've been watching!

My son lives in California and he says what he misses most is the thunder storms (hardly any in CA) He loves them and so do I

This one looks like heat lightning rather than a storm--the lightning went upwards...

Heat lightning is a weather myth. Just a storm far enough away that one cannot hear the thunder. But a storm for someone never-the-less.

Heat lightening is a myth. Its just so far away that the sound doesnt travel.

We watched (with a glass of wine, of course) for about 30 minutes from our west-facing lanai and also kept an eye on radar. There was a cell that hung out to the northwest that started to creep our way but must have stayed north. We heard the thunder sound closer about 11, but nothing ever materialized here.

But it was a great show..

Well I didn't know that. I didn't really want to know that, watching heat lightning is an old Florida tradition and I'm disappointed to have my romantic bubble burst.

I went across the street and told my neighbors to come and watch. We stood outside for a half hour and watched the amazing light show.
