Insurance Costs

We're considering a vacation home in TV. Just wondering if home owners insurance is more expensive in Florida than in the Midwest. Also if it's more costly for a manufactured home vs. site built.

My suggestion to you would be to check with an insurance company that does business here in Florida. I wouldn't take anyone's word for it because there could be some differences that an owner may not be aware of.

If there is a possibility the expenses might be too steep for you here, you should also be aware that there is a lawsuit pending between the IRS and The Villages. Google the IRS & The Villages to read about it. The results are uncertain but in the meantime, over $700,000 in residents' funds have already been used for the developer's atttorney. The developer has not paid for anything involved in the lawsuit and the lawsuit is against him.

I found property insurance to be much more expensive in Florida than Minneapolis. Also there are more restrictions on certain coverages. Given the issue with hurricane's every insurance policy property, auto etc has a hurricane assessment at 1.3%. From a personal point of view I believe it is important to insure with a good carrier because in the event of a large loss you will want a reputable company

There is also a problem insuring an un-occupied home.
