Warming to the Idea of Larger Cups
My first reaction was "it isn't golf." But the idea of going out and playing 18 in 3 hours and draining a few 25 footers isn't all that repulsive. As I get older, I want more enjoyment out of my activities, not a higher mountain to climb.

so a larger cup size eliminates an hour for 18 holes....eh?????
And do you still have those two or did they get sold too? :D |

I know it is the absolute truth because I heard this from a guy I did not know when we were toasting a few at one of the local pubs. :MOJE_whot: :1rotfl: :beer3: Z |
If we go by "it isn't golf" based on the pure...

I would be willing to try the courses with larger holes. The argument that it isn't real golf doesn't make a lot of sense to me. What is real golf? Is it a 7,200 yard layout? Is it a links course with mounds and with brown greens and hundreds of pot bunkers? Is it a 2000 yard executive course, or 1200 yards from the forward tees? Is it played with a feathery and hickory shafts or a pro v1 and graphite shafts? Is it beautifully manicured, watered fairways with football field size bent grass greens, or a rough course carved out of a pasture with sand greens? Do you have to walk to make it real, or can you ride in a luxurious cart around the course? There are and always have been many ways to play golf, and if someone wants to play the game with larger holes because it is faster or more fun then good on 'em.

Obviously the larger holes are to speed up the game so more rounds can be played in a day.
The SAT has been dumbed down Now it is golf's turn. |
Just came back from the Chicago area, and they're talking about the six inch cups also. No mention of speedier play as a reason, just the fun factor. There seems to be a slight sense of urgency to get more people into the "fun" of golf to preserve its future. The Midwest is pretty traditional, so it will be interesting to see if this gets any traction.

IMHO, golfers should be able to try new concepts without feeling threatened.

The tradition of the game is in following the rules and etiquette and on the exec. courses even that isn't used most of the time. That is not a negative as they are supposed to be fun...if only they'd not stop and jibber jabber, but keep moving. |
You can miss the six inch cup just as easily as you can miss the 4 1/2 inch cup. Believe me!!

Please don't make the Villages into a MINATURE golf course...What's next? Golf was intended to be played in a certain way...If not..go to Pirates Cove!!! IMHO

Tradition
Change? No thank you, I don't care for any. Not even a little change in size of hole. I didn't play with sticks and rocks. Where do I vote?
