gas cans
 

We intend on moving to TV in the neae future and buying a couple of gas golf carts. Are there any restrictions which prohibit keeping gas cans in garage?

Why would you create a fire hazard.Gas powered carts get great mileage and there are gas stations on the property to fill up when needed.

I had a gas cart and hated it. Smelly, louder and environmently unfriendly. I hold my breath if behind a gas cart in the tunnels. peeyew!! :yikes: Can't be healthy! Opted for electric and hoping for solar powered next!! Now if I could just find a reasonably priced slightly used PRIUS for my 200 miles per day of work, I would be very happy!! 040

The gas carts if properly tuned does not have the exhaust smell. They will also get approx.
50 miles to the gallon, give you at least 300 mile range. The fartherest gas station is about 6 miles or less from anywhere in TV.

Gotta disagree Dennis, I have yet to be behind (or riding on) a gas cart that didn't stink, not to mention the noise. I love my electric cart.

Mike, why would you want to have gas cans in your garage? They're dangerous and smelly. Granted, gas prices are going up and it might save you a few pennies if you had some gas on hand purchased earlier but it's going to get old in the cans anyway. If you manage to run out of gas in TV, it's more carelessness than anything else. There are more than enough gas stations conveniently located to any village, several of which (all?) are open 24/7. Unlike Wyoming, Florida is a very "tight" state -- nothing is spread out enough to have to worry about running out of gas, you just have to worry about paying for it.

BTW -- Where in Wyoming? I love your state! Have been there several times.

Thanks for responding. We currently live in Torrington, WY which is in the SE corner of the state and right on the Nebraska border, and about 90 mi. north of Cheyenne. Most of the people from this area of the country retire to AZ, but my wife and I both prefer green to the desert. In addition, TV offers so much more to do than any other retirement community that we have looked into. We will probably be the only people from WY, but when we visited everyone was so friendly that my wife made 3-4 "best" friends while we were there. Hopefully we will buy a house this summer, and move to TV in Nov. or Dec. Thanks again for your help. Mike

There may be some other people from Wyoming here in TV. There seems to be a Western States club. I am not sure if it covers Wyoming??

I had a small house fire that began under the house in a high, enclosed but unfinished area where I had a workshop. The firemen came (thank heaven for them) and I did have a gas can. He said I was lucky, gas cans are like bombs, huge explosions.

Just be very careful.

I try to keep very little gas in it, and at the farthest corner of the garage (for my lawnmower, since I'm not in TV yet)

Don't know about you, Muncle, but I don't store gas in my 3-gallon gas can. It's there for emergencies if someone (not me) does run out of gas to help out. Once used, it sits outside for a week to dry out before it is put back in the trunk. The idea of storing gas in my garage truly frightens me.

I know that many of you don't cut your own lawn anymore but if you did i would assume that you'd have to have some gas around to refill the mower? Or do you only go get it when the mower runs out?

If I decided to cut my own grass I'd get an electric/battery powered mower.

Russ, when I did mow a lawn, I just filled the mower when it needed it and even then the mower, trimmer and power saw had their own special storage shed far away from the house. Since that's not an option here, it's just another good reason to have someone else do it. I truly have a great fear of house fires after having lived through two of them (bad wiring in both cases). No way am I going to do something that has a risk of causing a fire if I can possibly help it.

Mike - to answer your question there is no prohibition against gas cans in the garage.
