Trim Notice
 

Just rec'd the TRIM notice.Taxes are going up $100 on a Patio Villa in Lynnhaven.Seems high to me.With the tax base growing in Sumter County,I do not understand why my taxes went up.I know my property value shot up but so did everyone in TV plus there a 1,000 new houses starting to pay property tax.
Why will the county budget increase higher than the growth of the tax base?
A growing tax base should stabilize taxes for the individual property owner.
Any comments?

Just received my TRIM notice. I closed on a new house in July. My assessment is 17,300 which means my tax bill for 2015 will be $212. Does anyone think it will stay like this or will it catch up to the actual assessment before the tax bill is sent out.

The first year of any new construction you are only taxed on the land. Your assessment of $17,300 sounds about right for an unimproved lot. The tax bill should stay the same plus the maintenance fee and other fees.

Excellent. Beat the tax collector for 1 year anyway !

This is not considered "beating" the tax collector.

I'm shocked! My taxes are up $1,046 !!!!!!!! Value of the property up only $9,000.

I received my trim notice, and my assessment went up and the tax went down. Not much either way but happy to see it.

looks like the same ratio as Digitalgranny - assessment up 3000, tax up 300.

The TRIM is just an attempt to keep you up to date as to what the taxes COULD be.

If you read column 3, it states that YOUR TAXES THIS YEAR IF PROPOSED BUDGET CHANGE IS MADE. For those that keep their TRIM statements and their actual tax statements, you will see that some of the rates go up as noted and others do not.

Since you can do nothing about it, just wait until November when the new tax statement comes out.

I cannot begin to imagine what my property taxes would have been in NJ. So I am a happy guy!!

That makes no sense. Extrapolating that info would give you 10K tax on a house assessed at 180K.

How long have you had the house. I assume it was new?
