Lifelock Ultimate Plus: Do we need it?
 

I guess plain ol' Lifelock wasn't enough, now it's "Lifelock Ultimate Plus".

I think the stated purpose is to protect against identity theft.

According to the advertisement I keep hearing, this guy put $300,000 in the bank and wakes up the following day to find that the entire amount has disappeared. Is that over the top or what?

Come on, I've never heard of any such thing ever happening.

I think it costs about $10 per month. Do you have it? If so, tell me how someone could drain all of your money out of your bank account or brokerage account. How is that possible?

IMHO they do not live up to their advertising. I dumped them after 2 years when they failed twice to pick up on someone trying to develop an alias. Their excuse was "mistakes happen" and perhaps you should consider upgrading.

Life lock is a scam. Do a search on its founder and you'll see...you can do what they claim only they can do.

The best thing to do is to put a security freeze on your accounts at all 3 credit bureaus. No one can open a credit account in your name unless you lift the freeze. Costs very little...zero I think if over 65. No monthly fees.

I did this (security freeze) when my first wife died, at the time crooks were trolling the obits and stealing identities. This works so well that I was in Macy's and tried to open an account to get discount for engagement and wedding rings and it would not go through. I was impressed. The only down side is if you want to make a big purchase (aka a car) you will not be able to finance it without arranging a temporary lifting of the freeze. Back in PA at the time the cost was less then $10 per service, one time payment and good for 7 years. There was a charge for the temporary lifting of the freeze.

About the security freeze, would I need to do this if I don't have a credit rating? I have never used credit.

The cost would be less than the service fees. Might be free for FL residents over 65.

This stops someone else from opening accounts in your name.
You should get your free annual credit reports from the 3 major agencies. Get one every 4 months not at one time. Read the fine print so you do not sign up for any services. Do this even though you do not have CC's.
