DishNetwork VS Direct TV VS Comcast?

I suspect this has been up before, But I didn't see it.
I currently have Comcast, HD, High speed internet.
I chose Comcast, right or wrong, because I did not want to deal with programming outages during inclement weather and/or the very active cloudy skies here in FL.
I can honestly say in three years Comcast has only been out once (here very recently).
Has anybody switched from Comcast to either of the satellites? Why? Are you satisfied?
If one believes all the satellite promotional material, they are supposedly less per month with more programming (HD as well).

I appreciate any info you may have to offer.
Thanx in advance.

Bille, I'm not sure if you get great audio from Comcast. I love high end audio when listening to music or a movie. I get that from Dishnet. As I said in another post, I use Comcast to get my locals in HD (Dish doesn't offer, DTV might) and for weather situations.

About three(3) years ago I took my comcast bill to Digital Sights and Sounds to get a cost comparison. The change was about five(5) dollars per month. I am still with Comcast.

Although I still subscribe to the Dish Network, I can say after nearly 13 years of service that the Dish Network has the absolute poorest customer service of any company I have ever dealt with in my life!
You get my point? :o
Handie :joke:

I have DirecTV. Changed from Comcast last fall to get the NFL ticket.
I get more channels + more premium channels for less cost than I got with Comcast.
Outages are few and far between and really don't last long. Usually less than 5 minutes.
Over the last 10 years up north and in TV I have had them all. Cable, Dishnetwork, DirecTV, Comcast & back to DirecTV. They have been pretty good to me and will stick with them for the foreseeable future.

I'm a newbie & a snowbird and am trying to decide between Dishnet & Directv. I am planning to install a dish (antenna) at my other home location and take the receiver(s) with me for the other 6 months therefore cable is not an option. As you've had both satelite services (and aside from the apparent fact that dish net is cheaper) I'm interested in your thoughts as to which is the better value.
Thanks in advance,
John A.

There's a lot of good info on Dish vs DirecTV here: https://www.talkofthevillages.com/fo...ad.php?t=32672

We made the switch from Comcast to DirecTV just over a month ago and very glad we did. After the one year promotion, it will cost a few bucks more per month than Comcast but you get a better picture, more channels and a much better DVR.

Comcast customer service and billing are terrible. I've posted before on all the things they've put me through over the past year and won't bore you by going into it again here.

I've had DISH Network for years. All of the Orlando-based network stations are available in HD and more than just one PBS channel. My few service inquiries have been answered promptly and politely...by an American, not some one in Bangalore.
I chose Dish over DirecTV because there was more bang for the buck and DirecTV is owned by NewsCorp -- headed by Rupert Murdoch (that was reason enough for me to go with DISH).

What made us switch from Dish to DirecTV a couple years back (in OH, when we decided to upgrade our service to include HD) was based on channel offerings by both. Dish didn't carry several channels in HD that were "must have" make-or-break deals for us. So we went with DirecTV. Neither company has been 100% stellar with their customer service - it's such a highly technical business.......and not everybody working the phones is a great technician. But I'd give both companies a "pretty good" rating.

Moral: Consider looking into the details of their channel offerings to make sure you'll be able to get everything you want - in HD if that's a consideration for you.

I have had Directv for 16 years and love it. When you compare the picture quality with comcast cable, it is definitely better. I have had several friends who switched from Dish because of the HD and sports programming. And while Ruppert Murdoch did own a portion of Directv, I believe he sold it.

There are quite a few of us that are very satisfied with Comcast and would never switch.

Check out all options before you decide on one or the other.

Switched from Comcast to Direct TV at a time when Direct was much cheaper. Maybe not so much anymore but have been happy with the service and not many blackouts other than really really servere weather. Even then I was able to get Orlando channel.

cable service

I moved down here 15 years ago and I have had Comcast for the entire time, the only thing I do with them is every 3 months I renegotiate my price with there special deals. I have there Phone, Internet and TV package, and so far its been working out for me. I pay 118.00 for all three.

JohnM 01-03-2011 02:25 PM

How do you "renegotiate" with them every three months ... threaten to quit? ... actually quit? I pay about that for cable and internet onlly from Comcast...

John

Just tell them of the better prices other competes have and you will switch if they don't get competitive, I have be doing this for years and it always works.
