Golf Cart Insurance

We are new to The Villages. Do we need golf cart insurance? Where do we get it? What does it cost? Thanks

Golf cart insurance

We have and would highly recommend it!! We have it through State Farm for $149 a year.

If you do not have it and cause an accident, the liability judgement against you could wipe out a lifetime of what you worked for. Cost is usually between $120 and $150 per year.

Concur. Probably you will never need it but it's cheap and if something were to happen, it makes life so much better for you.

Check around for rates. You can get it at the Villages Insurance, State Farm, and at AAA which gets you Progressive. Some other "auto" insurance plans have it also but they sometimes don't really know how to write a policy for "Golf Carts." Best they can do sometimes is motorcycle coverage policy so ask questions before you pay.

Progressive calls ours a motorcycle policy but our carts are clearly identified as such. Asking if you need this insurance is somewhat akin to asking if you need homeowners and auto insurance; to not do so could (as pointed out by an earlier poster) wipe you out financially.

Are you saying your homeowners and golf cart are combined in one policy? If so, could you let us know which insurance company it is since Villages Insurance is merely a broker?

Yes, you should get insurance. There are way too many personal injury attorneys down here. It only costs me $175.00 for full insurance with Uninsured motorists coverage. If you don't get the Uninsured you can save $30 bucks. I got mine from The Villages Ins.

No, they are separate policies.

Two separate policies, both of which are purchased through Villages Insurance.
By the way, don't forget to ask your Broker about obtaining sink hole insurance.

Our cart insurance is with The Villages Insurance, and it's with Foremost.

It's a motor vehicle driving in city streets with cars and trucks, not just a buggy on a golf course.

Get a separate golf cart policy that has liability coverage, medical payments, etc. People on carts in crashes often get thrown out onto pavement or curbs, sometimes with fatal or maiming injuries. Get seat belts, too!! Most cart crash injuries here in the streets are ejections.

Villages Insurance sells policy thru Foremost. Premium is about $150 per year and WORTH it.

I have Allstate. Stephanie at 259-3825. I get a good discount also because I have auto, home and umbrella too.

Absolutely get insurance and make SURE you have the right insurance. Hubby was in a serious cart accident in March, resulting in 5 surgeries (thank goodness he was wearing a seatbelt). He was hit by Florida resident driver who was in an automobile and at fault and ticketed. Because we are Michigan residents living in Florida part time...our MI no fault policy will kick in first (actually our health insurance kicks in first). Having said that, this is the BIGGEST mess you have ever seen, with all insurances trying to get out of paying!!! I would not want to wish this fiasco on anyone!
