Unthinkable Computer Boo-boo

Yesterday I did it! Spilled black coffee on my laptop. I turned it off immediately, took a towel and dried it the best I could and turned it upside down on another towel. Turned it on this morning and it booted up okay. Whew!! But some of the keys are sticking. I'm afraid to try and clean them myself. Any suggestions on where to take it for repair? Thanks in advance.

Personally I recommend MMD on 441. Go east on 466 to 27/441 and take a right and go past the castle. First store in the strip mall on the right. Look in the Daily Sun for a $5.00 discount coupon.

You should have a computer like mine it has a cup holder all you do is press the button and the cup holder pops out, I think most computers have them

Keyboards are very reasonable to buy new, so if they want an arm and a leg to repair yours, head off to the nearest charity shop they usually have lots of them.

I believe she is talking about a laptop keyboard

The keys on my laptop computer were sticking so I went to Wal-Mart and bought another keyboard. Works like a charm.

Just out of curiosity, how can you buy a new keyboard for a laptop? It is integrated into the device.

I was told it isn't worthwhile trying to repair a keyboard on a laptop; costs way too much. Just to buy a new keyboard. So I did. Bought a new keyboard for my laptop and attached it by sticking the plug into an outlet in the side of the Laptop. Oh, I have no idea what I did .. just followed instructions given to me by the guy in the store.

Works like a charm.

Zcaveman, in most laptops computers you can have a whole separate keyboard and also a mouse. The guys at Best Buy or Computer City should be able to tell you how to do it. It's not hard. Good luck.

I have also used MMD (at least I think this is where I went...the location sounds right) and was more than happy with their service. In fact, they were able to repair my laptop as I waited and the price was reasonable.

I understand that. I have the wireless mouse because I have problems with the mouse pad. I think it is the way I stick my tongue out when I am trying to get the mouse arrow on the correct item so I can select it. But if you have to lug around an extra keyboard it isn't really a laptop anymore. Don't get me wrong. It is an alternative instead of chucking the laptop because of a damaged keyboard.

That is absolutely true Zcaveman. When I'm in TV for six months, I use my laptop as an office computer and don't lug it anywhere, so the extra keyboard works fine. I forgot you are actually supposed to be able to carry laptops around. Duh. :dontknow: And I'm not even blonde.

So Zcaveman are you getting a wireless keyboard now? I have a wireless mouse and keyboard and they're great. I understand your point though. But why throw away a perfectly good laptop? I know it is frustrating. :o

I did the same thing with the coffee. You CAN get a separate keyboard for $20 or so, or spend an additional $60 for the service (total $80) to get the laptop repaired, which is what I chose to do.
