Clark Gable or Spencer Tracy?
Watching a movie on TMC with Clark Gable, Spencer Tracy and Claudette Colbert. She came for Spencer, ended up with Clark and I started thinking ... which would I choose of those two men (not the roles they play).
Finally decided my man would be Spencer. There is something just so real about him and I've always thought Katherine Hepburn had great taste in everything, so her man would have to be pretty amazing, too. Who would you choose? |
Re: Clark Gable or Spencer Tracy?
I know I'm not supposed to be here, but FYI, supposedly Gable had really bad breath. Yet he did attract Carole Lombard, one of the most beautiful women ever.

I was going to just do a good deed with that post on ID theft and then move on tonight. HOW COULD YOU? HOW DARE YOU? BAD BREATH!!!!! WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO? ERASE THAT CARRYING SCARLETT UP THE STAIRCASE SCENE FROM MY MIND FOREVER? B3 :verymad: |
Re: Clark Gable or Spencer Tracy?
Supposedly Carole counteracted the breath by chewing garlic. Gotta love a woman who can take care of a problem and keep vampires away at the same time. ;)
But that still doesn't answer the question ... Gable or Tracy? The tall, suave, debonair man's man? Or the smaller, rough-and-tumble, down-to-earth good guy? (And, no, you can't pick Cary Grant -- that's just too easy.) |
Re: Clark Gable or Spencer Tracy?
I can't believe I just logged back on. I am really sleepy tonight and I actually have a life tomorrow. It is spring in Ohio.
You see, Red, I cannot be in this conversation really. The reason is that I spent a lot of years in love with Charles Kuralt. And I have no idea why. Then I had a brief fling with Judd Hirsch. But only when he was playing Alex on Taxi. I could never choose between those two either. OK. It's out there. Now you all know. B3 |
Re: Clark Gable or Spencer Tracy?
Why can't we choose Cary Grant! I really believe he is the most perfect man in every way. If I have to choose between the two, I'd have to choose Clark Gable because a Past Life Reader once told me I was Carole Lombard in a past life! LOLOLOL :a20:
However, my real choice in this life would be Spencer Tracy. Just makes you feel safe in some way. I do like older men. (WINK, WINK, MUNCLE! WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN HERE? GET YOUR SNARLY REAR OUT OF HERE!) :joke: Just kidding. :-* |
Re: Clark Gable or Spencer Tracy?
:o :o
OMG! Charles Kuralt? I will shamelessly admit to Edward Asner......loved, loved loved him on the Mary Tyler Moore show and then Lou Grant!!! Oh, definitely Clark Gable! Phyllis.............. |
Re: Clark Gable or Spencer Tracy?
Charles Kuralt? Ed Asner? Judd Hirsch? Sheesh ladies -- this is between two oldies but goodies! Oddly, I love those choices, well, maybe not Kuralt. His voice was too good at putting me to sleep. Asner, though, is just such a teddy bear! Absolutely loved him in Lou Grant. Messr. Hirsch always comes across as so kind and caring and steady. Yup, I could have him in my life.
From this/that generation, my choices probably would have been Sidney Portier or Roscoe Lee Browne. Just something about those two men that always made me feel safe and feel that if they are involved with a woman, she gets 100% of the attention when they're together. Cary is out because how could you not pick suave, debonair, sexy, kind, caring, sexy, funny, hard-working, sexy ......? |

Will you be my new best friend? First of all, of course it is Clark Gable. Why would anyone not know that? But, I am so pleased that my declaration here of my love for Charles Kuralt (and Judd Hisch, but only as Alex) helped to free you from your confines so that you could shout your love for Ed Asner to the world. Finally. And I must say I agree that he is rather intriguing. But I will keep my hands off of him. You are my new best friend, after all. This is all so freeing that now I must make another confession here on TOTV. Sometimes I stay up late, maybe even a little after midnight. And when I do that, I watch old sitcoms on Lifetime. Sometimes it can be scary because I think that now I am the same age as The Golden Girls. (I once had a guy follow me all around a party telling me that he thought I looked like Blanche. :dontknow:) But I try to block that out of my mind. (Both of the topics in the above paragraph.) Here's what else is happening. You know Frazier. Well, I really like that show. Those two pompous brothers are a hoot. My favorite is the one where they had convinced themselves that Anastasia (that was the implication) may have been their grandmother. But I am digressing. Back to the confession. Frazier's dad, the cop with the cane, is starting to look kind of cute to me. |
Neither
I had such a huge crush on William Holden... Saw one of his movies EIGHT times (Dear Ruth was the movie). Also loooooooved him in Picnic with Kim Novak where they danced to "Moonglow." Real smooooooth.
My fickle heart also fluttered for.... William Lundigan, James Craig, Van Johnson, Sam Eliot (mmmm), to name a few. In my youth, I had all these actors' pics on the walls of my room; was a real movie buff. Nothing can surpass the "oldies." It seems many of the movies today are so dramatic and far from entertaining with all the crashes and blood & guts; the ugly part of life rears its head in realism; not entertaining to me at all. So enjoyed the MGM musicals and romantic light-hearted films. |

surprised you didn't say jack wilson............ Fume |
"Back to the confession.

Frasier's dad was played by John Mahoney (6/20/1940). I kinda had a thing for him in Moonstruck...he played the interest of Olympia Dukakis. Oh yes, he is cute and did grow on me in this show. |
