Ebola concern
 

Any concern for traveling abroad or cruising? We hv cruised the carbbean at least 20 times. Every cruise has had wonderful employees. They do their multi month contracts and go home for a few weeks. Many to impoverished countries. We are sorry for them and always enhance their gratuities, but now just not sure if cruising or traveling abroad is a good idea.

Seriously that is a good question. New employees coming on for their contract could be from west Africa. Most are not, from what I have experienced, but this is food for thought! I am leaving in Dec on a cruise

Perhaps the government should put all of Texas into quarantine for at least 21 days... Keep Ebola from spreading.

There was a reason for having all incoming passengers medically checked at Ellis Island (and other receiving stations). Maybe it is time to return to that practice.

That is what I would call a basic undertaking that one would/should in place to begin a process to reduce or eliminate the entry into the country anything we do not want.

However in this day and age of permissiveness and not offending anybody and the worst of all ....LETS WAIT AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS.....such sensible, prudent precautions will not be entertained.

We live is a day and under a regime that totally subscribes to locking the barn door AFTER THE HORSES GET OUT!!!!

Politics and politicians will not get the job done....they are incapable of doing what needs to be done....unless re-election is in the equation.

We may be technologically advanced but managerially handicapped.

Someone said on here that there is not much our federal government can do about this.....I say that there is like freezing the visa of almost 14000 folks who can come and go here at will because they have a visa and they live in the environs of where this disease is most prevelant.

Someone explain why we at least do not make an effort on this front.

Not to panic but at least why are we not doing all we can about shutting the borders.

Experts warn that the Ebola virus will quickly spread beyond West African and combined with the flu season quickly approaching will result in confusion and hence lead to a world wide endemic . They also are concerned that if this virus mutates it could be carried in a different way, perhaps airborne.

The government needs to encourage Pharma to develop drugs/vaccines quickly to contain and eliminate this threat.

The government must restrict travel and work with other nations to do the same

I am no chicken little but just looking at how quickly this virus is spreading in Liberia should lead one to conclude that medical people are falling behind despite their gallant efforts and the world needs to respond quickly and decisively

we all know now from EXPERIENCE our government will do what they always do.....WAIT AND SEE.....and NOTHING MORE.....except continue with the feel good talking!!!

If they were fireman they would wait and see if the fire reaches their house before doing ANYTHING.

I read somewhere yesterday that we will be sending 4000 troops to W. Africa to fight Ebola. What is with this?

Yeah... what could possibly go wrong.

I think some people are just looking for a reason to stay home.

I can not recall meeting or encountering one (staff) person from an African nation while cruising and we have cruised a number of years. Most are from eastern Europe, the Caribbean, or even places in the western pacific.

Really? I've found a lot of staff from Africa, several waiters from Sierra Leone in particular.

Cruise ships really aren't what concern me though. What concerns me is a repeat of the HIV epidemic. I'm more concerned for my family that travels internationally for business. I'm concerned for medical personnel who get needle pricks and have to sweat it out and get repeatedly tested because the patient didn't want their privacy violated by testing.

That Dallas guy changed in Brussels and VA (I think) before ending up in Dallas. Think about how many people he interacted with.

How can ground troops fight this without being exposed?
