Hardwood flooring turning black
Black spots on hardwood flooring
[SIZE="5"]My engineered 5/8 thick glued down hardwood flooring has started to turn black on the top.Has anyone had this same problem.?? It comes from moisture coming up through the concrete slab. it also has created mold on the bottom of the hardwood tongue and grooved sections. I would appreciate any comments on this problem . Thanks. :bigbow: |
Have you looked into manufacturer defect in the board making, of the wood drying/treating process, and the factory baked on finish process? Kiln dried vs. air dried, etc.?

I am allergic to mold and I developed pneumonia from being in contact with it and was very sick for a few months. My advice, get this checked out ASAP. I had a great crew of contractors for the remediation and construction. BTW, insurance covered almost 100% of it but the whole experience was a stressful time. Good luck!! |
I work for Shaw.
What you are seeing is probably mold from moisture below the floor from the concrete that probably was not given enough time to cure (takes weeks) before the flooring was installed. If the hardwood was installed directly on the concrete without a barrier layer this is a possible result. When we bought our TV home it had carpet. We had it all pulled up and installed Shaw EPIC engineered hardwood. Our installer made sure he put down a barrier first. |
