Bird Cages and Property Lines
 

We just got back from TV and we bought a home in Hemingway (just dirt now). It is on a small lot and doesn't have much space in the back yard. How close to the property line can we build a bird cage?

I believe you are limited to 10 feet from the property line for any building structures.

You should check with the Architectural Review board. I believe (could be remembering wrong) that you have to keep it within the setback lines (which are different than the property lines). We have a designer on a small lot and our setback line is only 5 feet from the house, so we obviously have limitations. Our neighbor had wanted to put a birdcage on, but decided it wasn't worth it, because they have the 5' setback line as well. Good luck!

Lil Dancer, which village are you in? I have also been wondering about putting in plants on the side of the house and do not know the limitations.

This is the link to the Architectural review board. There is a telephone number you can call to ask questions, or you can also download a form to submit for archtectural review.l Hyacynth, we're in mallory. We had to submit a plan showing our proposed landscaping. It was pretty easy to do. I believe they meet once a week, so if you get your plan in, you get it approved in a week or so. Good luck.

Spoke to one landscaper who we have hired to do pruning, weeding and other things while we are gone. Weren't planning on hiring anyone just yet but her fees were so low, no contract needed to be signed, month by month deal, and she came highly recommended.

I have to get our site plan in order to present our proposal.

Believe it is 5 ft. from the sides and 10 ft. from the back property line. This is your set back. Hope this helps. :)

Hi Chuckster I did not know that. Our next door neighbors have there landscaping ending on their property line. I wonder if landscaping follows the same rules as bird cages do. Do you know?

I was also under the impression it was 10 in the rear and 5 on the sides.

Could be wrong, but believe that set back refers to structural and not landscaping which could go to the property line. The architetural review board would be a factual source of info. Hope this helps. :)

It is my understanding that landscaping can go to the line (with approval of course). Permanent structures are subject to th setback rules.

Yes, I believe the landscaping can go to the property line, but permanent structures must be within the setback lines. We planted our trees a few feet in from the property line, so they would not overhang the property line when they mature.
