Talk of The Villages Florida - HBO is planning an Internet streaming service

Cable and Satellite co have been losing subscribers (i.e., Cutting the Cord). However, when people just cut services, such as premium channels, it has been dubbed "Shaving the Cord".

While continuing to seek subscribers from cable and satellite, HBO will start to sell its service separately via the Internet next year.

"It is time to remove all barriers to those who want HBO," the network's chief executive Richard Plepler said Wednesday. "So, in 2015, we will launch a stand-alone, over-the-top HBO service in the United States."

A growing share of pay-TV customers are signing up for smaller, cheaper bundles of channels that cost anywhere from $10 to $50 a month and don�t include popular channels like TNT, USA, ESPN, CNN, Fox News, Disney Channel and Discovery Channel, the industry executives say.

�What we are seeing is some cord cutting and some cord shaving,� said Stephen Hasker, global president of Nielsen. �Consumer time and attention is shifting.�
