DirecTV vs. cable
 

Does anyone have problems with DirecTV here? Is the reception spotty if it is rainy for several days? We are thinking of switching from Comcast.

Yes, the picture with Direct TV does break up with heavy rain and lightning. But the benefits far outweigh the negatives in my opinion. The HD resolution is far better than cable with a lot more HD channels available. Be sure to get the DVR receiver and record shows - you can watch a one hour show in 40 minutes as you skip commercials. We are quite happy with Direct TV.

I would recommend doing a search on cable companies or Comcast before making the switch. If you're south of 466A you can consider Brighthouse.

South of 466A also has Century Link in addition to Direct TV, Comcast and Brighthouse......competition is wonderful.

I've had DirecTV here for 8 years. Yes heavy rain will take out the HD service but rarely for more than 3-5 minutes. Then you can usually change to the Standard Definition channel in most cases.

If you're a sports fan there's no better service that I know of.

Had Comcast - very unhappy. Got DirecTV - very happy. If rain affects HD channel just switch to the SD duplicate and enjoy your show.

Agree on DirecTV. I use Comcast for internet only. They have the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. DirecTV will loose HD in heavy rain sometimes but if you program your guide with both HD and standard chanels almost always the standard chanel will be available if the HD goes off, and this happens rairly. Plus the DirecTV customer service is excellent.

Maybe it's just me, but why would you accept a service that goes away when it rains.....I know it's satellite and that happens but aside from the fact it might be cheaper than cable and almost anything would be better than COMCAST, why?

For me, it has happened so infrequently and for such short periods of time that's it's simply not an issue.

OK, I have a question for Direct TV customers, after the intro rate of 19.95 to 24.95 per month, what does it really go up to? I have seen some TV commercials that indicate thousands of $$ per year (or 2)?

I have Dish net work and love the Hopper. I also use there internet service. When I snowbird I take router and dvr with me and only pay for one house. Otherwise you have to have two accounts and two bills each month. The loss of signal is rare and doesn't bother me at all. I watch mostly recorded shows anyhow. My daughter has Direct and stayed there for a week and I hated it. The guide is a joke and the programming was disappointing.

I can't wait to get rid of Comcast and go back to direct tv

We were trying to save $ so we tried comcast

We've had Directv for many, many years. It has to be a hard rain to lose the signal and it usually is not out very long. The year of the hurricanes was a different story. We kept getting those outer bands and it would rain hard for most of the day. Then we had to resort to reading. But that is a rare occurrence. We love the Genie. You can record/watch 5 things at once. That is more than any other provider offers, as far as I know. Lots of sports channels offered.

I've had dish for two years and really like it. When direct tv approached me with a cheaper price I contacted Dish and they matched it. I didn't have to do anything. As far as Comcast goes they are the worst company in customer service, period. Of course if you've ever had to deal with them you would know it. Best thing I ever did was dumping them. I have century link for Internet and I'd put them on par with Comcast, very poor with customer service!
