Woke up to an Earthquake this morning
We had a 5.2 (RS) earthquake this morning about 5:40 AM. Epicenter was in Southern Illinois but was felt as far away as Kansas City, Chicago, and Memphis. No damage or injuries reported.

Re: Woke up to an Earthquake this morning
Tom, did it scare the heck out of you? 5.2 pretty nice jolt! Especially at 5:40am, probably woke you up, nothing worse. Same as the Northridge quake at around 4am. Glad to hear no damages or injuries. Haven't heard a thing about it on the news this morning.
Glad your okay, hopefully no aftershocks. In L.A., 5.2 is NOTHING, but to me, anything is something. Don't like to feel the ground move underneath me. Good luck. Kathie (from L.A.) |

Re: Woke up to an Earthquake this morning
Now you get to spend about 500 billion dollars to seismically upgrade all the public buildings, schools, bridges, hospitals, etc.

Another precinct heard from: Southwestern Ohio.

You too? OMG, were you scared? Sorry to hear about it, hope all was okay. Let us know. |
Re: Woke up to an Earthquake this morning
Northeast Ark heard from and yes I felt it shake my bed this morning. We are on the New Madrid fault here and this was not the first time I have been woken with my bed being shaken by a quake.

All is well. It just woke us up, sounded like somebody was stomping around in the house. We rolled over and went back to sleep, leaving all our trust in ADT that no one was really out there. Mr. Boomer mumbled something about blaming the dog. But men often blame the dog for certain things as we all know. I did dig out the house insurance policy to be interesting reading later. But, for now, everything is fine. |
Re: Woke up to an Earthquake this morning
We had an aftershock at 11:15 a.m. The epicenter was about 40 miles NW of Evansville, IN. I first thought it was a strong wind but then the house just vibrated and I could hear dishes rattling in the kitchen. We were just waking up and so were still groggy when trying to figure out what was happening. By the time I had my wits about me, it was over. Every once in a while you get a wake up call (litterally in this case) to the power of nature. |
Re: Woke up to an Earthquake this morning
Charming.... Life is never full enough, eh?! I can't recall ever having had an earthquake in upstate NY, but I don't doubt the possibility of anything....

Re: Woke up to an Earthquake this morning
Tom, B3, Mik,
I can relate. I lived in northeast Los Angeles, right next to Northridge, and we had one every month, small ones but still somewhat upsetting. A 5.2 is definitely a wake up call to check out insurance policies. But our 5.2's aren't felt that wide spread, I guess it has to do the type of ground we're on. Glad you're all okay. Regards, Kathie |
Re: Woke up to an Earthquake this morning
I was back in Indy for a week and it woke me up the bed was shaking (I was alone) and the patio furniture was moving on the cement just outside. I went back to sleep right away. Glad to be back in The Villages.

Re: Woke up to an Earthquake this morning
Heard there was another one this morning, somewhere near Indiana, I think. Don't know the epicenter or the size of the quake, but its scary... Maybe L.A.'s BIG ONE, is coming soon. OMG, glad I'll be in TV.

Re: Woke up to an Earthquake this morning
It was just another aftershock. Happened during the night - it was a pretty good shaker. It was not as rough as the original.

Re: Woke up to an Earthquake this morning
The one last night was "only" a 4.0. Mrs. W. and I slept through that one.
