Noisy fridge - HELP!!!!

Help!!!!

I have the Whirlpool Gold Frenchdoor fridge and it is so noisy it is driving me insane!!! Please note I am an easy going girl; but this is crazy!!

When we moved in, I switched out my appliances with Baileys to upgrade to the Frenchdoor fridge and stainless on all appliances. They are beautiful Whirlpool Gold models.

Immediately the fridge started in with this LOUD humming/singing noise. The noise is intermittent, but it lasts long and often. The noise is coming from the freezer portion. Bailey's took a look at it and said, 'Oh yes, this a problem' but they had to follow procedure and contact the approved Whirlpool techs.

Twice now the Whirlpool techs have told me this sound is normal. ,I however, have been in the neighbors houses (they have the same model) and although they have the sound, mine is 10 times the loudness of theirs !!!

My husband thinks he will get somewhere by calling; Whirlpool but even the tech said this is a common complaint.

Any ideas for me? I don't think I can live with this. It appears that Bailey's have nothing else they can do for me.

George was, may still be, the regional service manager. He got ours replaced after Fields Appliance could not repair the issues. I cannot find his phone number, but you might try sending him an email..

We had a similar noise issue with our Whirlpool gold fridge. After numerous visits (over months) by the tech, turns out it was leveling of the unit and a metal plate on the bottom vibrating. A defect in the design of the metal enclosure I guess. He finally brought a foam insulation kit to do the repair. I believe the metal plate was on the bottom of the unit that was vibrating? Problem finally solved for us. Darn thing would make your teeth rattle with the loud hummm. Might be an avenue for you to look into for your fix. Also, when it vibrated, if you push on the fridge, it would stop or reduce the noise which made us think it was a metal plate vibration somewhere. Good luck

thanks

Monday I am so on it!!!

Wholman, I sure hope this guy can help us as he did for you. I really prefer to start with a new one. For some reason I think an expensive appliance should be right from the start....I know what world do I live in right?

Happinow, I will try your fix next if above does not work out. Was glad to hear exactly how you understood how bad it really is!!!!!

All the whirlpool refrigerators are terrible. They are cheap and people have had problems for years and the contractor doesn't care. They will keep putting you off until their warranty runs out then you have to deal with Whirlpool. Get rid of it and get a new one. That's what I did.....

My contractor fridge from 4 years ago is a GE and it sounds like an Evenrude outboard motor at night. If GE and Whirlpool are noisy, than what do you recommend to replace it?

You were able to trade out your appliances?

ssmith 11-03-2014 08:10 PM

MSGirl

MSGirl, I did trade out my appliances. I spoke to my Realtor, the party line is that the Villages does not allow it but they put me in touch with Baileys. Baileys gave me the same song and dance but did switch them out for a price. The delivery guy from Baileys said they switch them out all day long!!!

We dumped our Whirlpool after a lot of discussion. Our new unit (another brand) is quiet as a church mouse. Just saying!

For any appliance repair, Call Jim Risley, 352-348-3411. He is quick and honest in pointing out the crappy little freezer fan motor or icemaker thing that causes these noises, which can be replaced with the "old style" motor formerly used for decades which costs $20 and then it will last as long as the appliances used to. He knew immediately on the phone what needed to be replaced for about $70 parts and labor, because he fixes these things about 10 times a week.

Save yourself the aggravation of dealing with store and manufacturer "service" people on the phone who are reading from a script somewhere in Timbuktu. Call Jim.

at witts end

... well we are still dealing with the issue.

It's been a month now. My husband is trying to abide by the rules but we are getting the "scripted" response!!! This has really dampened our fun of the move....can't even stand to sit in my own living room!!! The fan runs for 6 or more hours on end.

Sunny at last, I think calling Jim Risely may be our next move....my fear is that it won't fix the problem but we ARE DESPERATE!!!! I cannot live with this issue.

Thanks to everyone for your ideas....will buy the LG as a last resort....I like all my appliances to match but cannot tolerate this noise.

Wholman, we can't seem to get a response from this George Howard person with his E-mail and no one will give us his phone number.

To add insult to injury, we were in a neighbors home just last night and sat maybe 3 feet from the exact same fridge and we did not hear it even once.

It is becoming quite the joke ie " I'd put it in my garage but I'm afraid it will bother the neighbors" hahahaha

We changed out our original GE refrigerator with a new French Drawer stainless GE Monogram. We got this around 3 years ago. As soon as I got it, I noticed a higher noise level. So while it was on warranty, I called and requested a maintenance check. The rep arrived when the unit was in its quiet mode. He connected his computer to the fridge which has a computer with memory. He detected no fault codes. He could then start and stop each of the components that cause noise. One is the compressor and then their were (I think) 9 different fans. When he got everything on at once it was noisy but I was told that was an unlikely scenario. Anyway two more calls under warranty and they then installed a noise suppression kit which was included in all units sold several months after mine was manufactured . What is the point? They knew it had a noise problem but did not offer a recall fix. They just waited until they got enough complaints. Moral keep calling them while it is on warranty . Complain, complain until they get the point. Ask for a replacement. Don't relent while you are on warranty. They can't refuse to service and they might get the point that that it would be better to replace or fix.
