House rented... now what?
We've rented a house in TV for Jan -March
Here are some questions.... 1- I'm making lists and wondering what I've forgotten. Any unusual things I should be bringing? 2- Do we get a resident card (vs guest pass) and if so is it good for the 3 months or do we need to renew it? 3- My husband golfs..what's the best way to find him some golf buddies? He'd golf every day if he could. 4- Any other suggestions on things you wish you knew before getting there? |
Passes depend on the homeowner. Some will pay the $50 for resident passes, some have the renters pay, some aren't willing to turn in their ID cards and then renters can only get guest passes.
Once you get your resident cards, your hubby will be able to sign up to play golf. I don't know how it works, but I believe if you just show up at a course, they'll find you a group to play with. If a golf cart doesn't come with the property, rent one. TV isn't quite the same with just a car. Be prepared to get lost. Have no fears, someone will help you out. Get a subscription to The Daily Sun. You can order that now to start delivery on the day of your arrival. Have fun! |
The time of year you are renting is our Snowbird season so the golf courses are pretty much full. If you get the Residents card you will be able to use the phone system for golf tee times. I think it would be a better idea to subscribe to TheVillages.net and use the on-line golf system. Since he's a lone golfer he could then select an open tee time and find a threesome and sign up for the fourth spot. It will cost you $4 a round on Executive courses if you don't pay the trail fee in advance. Champion courses have the cart fee included in the cost. We have 32 Executive and 12 Champion (by the time you get here) courses. Definitely rent a golf cart even if you are a golf walker. It will be a much more fun experience for you and make finding a parking spot at the town squares much easier. Above all have fun.

Red, You said some owners aren't willing to turn in their ID cards. Do we have a choice? I was told we had to turn in our ID cards when we rented our home. Or, is it different because we rent our home as a long-term rental (yearly lease)? |

Since you indicated your husband is an avid golfer you will need the temp. resident id ($50 paid either by owner or renter) because if you are given a guest pass your husband will be unable to make tee-times and will have to play with a resident. He would also have to pay greens fees on exec. courses each time he played with a guest pass. |
It is very easy to meet people - the neighbors in my villages embrace all the new guys. also the are mens days on certain days everyone is welcome - useing the TEE time system is so much easier than the phone and well worth the fee.

As for golf, you make bookings online or via the telephone - either way you will be made up into a foursome. You must have an ID card to book a round. If you and your wife play a lot of executive golf consider the possibility of a 6 month trail fee from a rec centre at same price for one or 2 in the household - consider walking the course - no charge - or hire a golf cart used to be $1 - you will need to guess the number of rounds you can book in 3 months to see if this is cost effective |

We are there Jan thru Feb and would love to meet up. Can we organize a way to do this? Maybe a meet and greet sometime after Jan. 1? We should be there by the 4th or 5th.

Yes, we can plan to meet...I am open to suggestions for time and place. You may need a few days to get settled, perhaps we can set up Jan. 9th as a temporary date.
