Lumpectomy
This week I got the sad that the biopsy showed cancer cells and that I would most likely need a lumpectomy. I see a gynecologist here within TV and now am referred to a Dr. Bontz , a general surgeon in Leesburg, whom I am seeing on Monday for a consultation. I am told he operates out of the Leesburg Hospital.
Has anyone had any experiences with this surgeon, good or bad, that I should be aware of before I make a decision? Any information - good or bad - is appreciated. |
while you are contemplating who to use give consideration to Dr. Celia Nelson.
She is the surgeon who did my wife's lumpectomy. She is a very warm, personable, patient caring/focused doctor. She is very detailed in her diagnosing and treatment. She has a very competetent list of support recommendations for what ever treatment will be required post surgery. Be sure to ask about the procedure, 7 years ago, called mammosite. Minimal invasion. Install a port for radiation to be robotically applied. One week, 7 days twice per day. The alternative is whole breast radiation which goes on for very many weeks and of course involves much more tissue exposure. She has a very warm and friendly bedside manner. Keeps patient and family well informed. There is no wondering what she said or meant sfter a session with her. I hope this gives you an option for consideration. |
I can't comment on the doctors you are considering, but I wish you every success and a speedy recovery.

My daughter and I both decided to be under the care of an oncologist who guided us to pick our surgeon who specialized in diseases of the breast. That was back in Ohio.
The Moffitt Center in Tampa is just an hour and a half away. No matter who you choose, we both wish you well and want to remind you that if they are considering a lumpectomy, your future looks bright. Cancer is a hateful, nasty, scary thing and if you want to come over for a cup of coffee anytime, pur door is always open and the coffee pot is on. We serve wine too. Hugs and love. AND PRAYERS. |

Dr. Bundz did my husband's hernia surgery earlier this year and was wonderful. I have to backpedal a little and admit my ignorance that I don't know whether he is--or is not--the right person for breast cancer surgery. I don't know enough to speak with authority either way. |

My wife has just had a lumpectomy and it was done at Moffitt in Tampa. I can't say enough good things about all of the people involved in her treatment.

IMO yours and Gracie's experiences are worth serious consideration. Thank you for sharing them. |
My Ellen underwent a breast lumpectomy in NY several months before we moved to TV. Her radiation treatment took place here in early '13. Dr Bundz, who came highly recommended, removed the port she had had installed back in NY for chemo. We were impressed (and did our own homework) and would request his services without hesitation for surgical matters.
Ellen has been cancer free for almost two years. As Gracie said, your future does look bright if you have been directed to a lumpectomy. You will be specifically in my evening prayers. May God's grace shower you and strengthen you. :) |
I had a consultation with Dr. Bundz last year for something else. I liked him, easy to talk to and would go back. Sending up prayers for you.

I had my lumpectomy in Sept 2011 and was referred by Dr. Tummala (my oncologist) to Dr. Mascarenhas (my breast surgeon) who did the surgery at Florida Waterman Hospital. Dr. Mascarenhas implants a SAVI unit which was used to administer radiation. Similar to BTK's wife, I had radiation 2 times a day for 7 days and then the SAVI unit was removed. Unfortunately, I don't know Dr. Bundz but if you have any interest in meeting with my doctors, I will be extremely happy to give you their information. Please make sure to choose someone that you feel is caring and will explain everything to you and spend as much time with you as you need. This is a very scary thing, I know because I was there. I do hope and pray it turns out well for you and that you're cancer free very soon. Good luck, pm me if you have any questions. I reached out to BTK and his wife during my investigative process and they were extremely helpful to me. Please don't hesitate to reach out to any of us with questions. Praying for your good health.

Moffitt in Tampa. Dr Kiluk. Not enough memory on this computer to say all the nice things about him and the staff there. He was named Dr of the Year right after my wife had her surgery. My wife would email questions and would get prompt responses - directly from him. One of his staff told me he looks at each patient and proceeds with treatment as if it was his sister or mother.

Prayers and Blessings for You
