Amaryllis Bulbs
I have some paper white bulbs growing that will soon blossom. After it blossoms, how do I take care of the bulbs so they can be used again? I guess they can be reused another time?? Thanks

Cut the flower stalk off when the flower fades. Continue to let the leaves grow for around 8 months. Cut down all the leaves about an inch from the bulb. Place the pot in a dark place where it will not get any light. Let it sit dormant for at least two months then bring it back into daylight and water.

"Paper whites are different from Amaryllis- they may not be salvageable because they have been pre-chilled and 'forced'. Google should provide you with clear info. Amaryllis can be planted directly into our gardens here, once all danger of frost is past (usually March 16th) - they get spectacular over time! Again, do some research as to planting instructions." In double checking that they will not bloom, I offer this quote from White Flower Farm -- a well known garden and plant supply company in Connecticut, who has been in business for over 60 years: After Paperwhites finish blooming, we recommend that you throw the bulbs out or toss them on the compost pile. They won't bloom again indoors. |
