Villages Appears to be New Target

"American Veterans Support Foundation" appears to be big-time scam and recently "found" The Villages.

Received phone call a few minutes ago from a man identifying himself as a "paid fundraiser" for an organization calling itself the "American Veterans Support Foundation."

Read the following link for the scoop on what a scam it seems to be with VERY LITTLE OF THE FUNDS RAISED actually benefitting "veterans." Seems that over 80% of the funds raised go to the fund raisers and staff.

For more info beyond this link and to see how many "charitable solicitations" are abusing/misusing "veterans" as a term and as people, Google it.

Watching out for the exploitation of veterans

Thanks for the post.

We seniors appear to be easy targets.

I would like to see what our Vets would do if they got their hands on these scammers

There is also a new scam with a 202 Wash DC phone number. They are trying to get you to say "yes". They will ask if you can hear them. Do NOT say YES. They will then have your voice recorded as saying yes and they can wreck all kinds of havoc.

Bottom line... Don't answer the phone if you don't recognize the name or number!

Voicemail is a beautiful thing!

Just got the call, did not because I was not expecting a call from Washington DC 202 407 9185.

Thanks for the warning.

Caller ID is WONDERFUL! If we do not recognize the calling number, we just don't answer the call. If they leave a message and we care - we'll call back. End of problem. Repeat calls get blocked :)

Always ask for a Callback number. Watch how fast they disappear!

There are a lot of scam charities out there. Frequently, they will personalize their solicitations by claiming to be conducting a Villages campaign. Never give to a charity without checking it out on charitynavigator.com. Also discourage even legitimate charities from using annoying phone solicitations by saying "Sorry, I never pledge over the phone." Click.
