Practicing for NY Eve

I was playing golf at Heron a few days ago and right about 4:45 pm, we heard shotguns shooting by Lake Miona. Is this duck season? I also thought that area was mostly State Park. Is hunting allowed there?

What sport that is, in a target rich environment. The practice of Villagers feeding wildfowl has lead to a significant population of semi-domesticated ducks who happily glide into the local waters each evening to roost. I understand they are less gamey tasting due to their diet of enriched white bread and popcorn.

What I read is that for duck hunting the shooting hours are 1/2 hour before sunrise to sunset. Sunset hours can be found in the newspaper or on-line. They should not just look around and say I still have enough daylight. They should check the newspaper or some source to know for sure when sunset is.

But what I read about crow hunting is that the hours are 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset. So it could be someone shooting crows. I just checked the computer and it says sunset for The Villages is 5:31 p.m. So they could still shoot at crows at 6:01 p.m. and be legal.

Hunting on Lake Miona is legal.

Duck Hunting

3 mornings in a row now waking up to gunfire. How long is duck season? I looked online but couldn't tell. Have been in The Villages for 9 yrs. and this is the first year hearing this.

Same here...6 am this morning and I could hear gunshots...I have enough trouble sleeping without someone shooting at 6am and the other night it was late in the evening...how long will this last.

Until Jan 25 or until they run out of ducks.
