What do you think about North Korea website being shut down?
 

Key North Korean websites were back online Tuesday after a nine hours-long shutdown that followed a U.S. vow to respond to a crippling cyberattack on Sony Pictures that Washington blames on Pyongyang.

Don't fool with the U.S.!!!!!

Really don't think this was done by the U.S. Government. We have much more to lose than Korea in a hacking war. But I wouldn't be surprised if it was done by American hackers.

Either way, I'm glad it happened but I am concerned about potential repercussions. North Korea shuts down its power all the time. Imagine if power were shut down to just one major U.S. city for the day -- an inconvenience for most people, a disaster for small businesses, a catastrophe for big business and the stock market. Sadly, they really can hurt us far more than we can hurt them in the cyber world.

I believe they attacked themselves and will blame it on us. They are that crazy.

I don't know what I believe.



I guess it depends on WHO is making ALL of the decisions. wink. And whether we are on the side of the decision maker or against him. or her.

The government employs people that could do this, or it was a 15 year old

It could have been any hackers who wanted to see The Interview or were just upset with the tactics of North Korea. I would not put it past the CIA though if they gave some of these foreign hackers incentives.

I do agree that since they have little thought to the consequences of their actions due to probable unquestioning state support as well as complete control of their media by the powers in that country, that North Korean hackers can do a lot of damage to us.

If big business sees this as a "heads up" to tighten security maybe it's wasn't so bad.

North Korea will implode. Wouldn't it be something if the North Koreans people would see what just happened to Cuba, no sanctions? I wonder if Obama had that in mind all along?

North Korean people see us as a threat because of a steady barrage of government propaganda that is all over their radio, tv stations, schools, public mandatory meetings, celebration. There is a very small, very wealthy class of Koreans that get to enjoy life while most of it's population starves.

In NK when you break the law you and your extended family can go to a work camp and you could stay there generations. How crazy is that? It doesn't matter how brave you are when your entire family is threatened.

Two thumbs up on the internet outage. Kept it up long enough for North Koreans to realize it COULD happen to them. But shut it off before they could determine HOW it happened.

I'm up in Chicago for Christmas and had dinner with a friend who is a Google executive. We discussed the North Korean internet shutdown, and his take was that it was China that caused it. He said that NK's servers are located there and that China was none too happy that they were used to hack web sites. I still wish it were us, but eithey way it was definitely a shot over the bow.

North Koreans are very adept at doing without. I think a major problem for Kim Jong-un is the information about the rest of the world is leaking into his country over the Internet. I think it would please him to have black-outs.

Then again maybe this is the straw that breaks the camels back. Until recently it was illegal for women to wear pants. Women are speaking up because unless it's a political offense you won't go to jail. People have sim cards. They can be modified to call outside of Korea but if you get cought that would be considered political and you could be sent to jail.

Lesson learned for us - signed a 2 year contract with KimJongNet.com to save a few bucks.

The smartest suggestion I have read concerning a response to North Korea hacking was for the government to buy the movie and take hundreds of USB sticks tie them to balloons and send them flying over North Korea

Boom. The whole North Korean government needs to be shut down.
