Social Security: New Benefit Amount (statement for 2015)

I received a statement that says my Social Security benefits will increase by 1.7% in 2015. It sounds good except the monthly amount they say they will pay me is actually $32. dollars less than I have been getting. (Nothing else has changed as far as deductions etc.)

I will contact them if no one knows of any good reason for this lower payment.

If you have a medicare advantage plan that pays part of your plan B, the reduction in benefits could be caused by that plan paying less than last year.

Same here. I don't know if I can afford any more raises.

Thanks, perhaps I should call the agent who signed me up for Freedom Health. What I understood was: There would no longer be a partial rebate of my Medicare part B premium. That's all that was said.

That should explain the difference - if they were paying some of your part B and no longer are you would receive less money in your check each month to cover the difference.

Yes, that's it!! Optimum Health was rebating 32 dollars every month and now I will get $32 dollars less. Being that I can no longer get a rebate from any HMO I'm glad I changed to Freedom Health.

Thanks, everyone, for all the replies.
