Unbroken

tentatively planning on starting the new year with this movie....have heard mixed reports about how little time is devoted to the religious conversion aspect of this man's story....has anyone seen it? opinions?

I have seen it, Cha.
It might help to do some online reading of Mr. Zamperini's story beforehand.

The movie includes the important essence of his spirituality, but the covered timeline does not include scenes of his life post-war… the remainder of his story.

i have seen the author's interview with him and i know it is a great story, but i don't want to sit through two hours of torture scenes without the later effects on his spirituality being explored. that, to me, would be the most important part of the story!

It was a great book, but it's always difficult to compress everything into a two hour movie. As expected, the movie features the following: brief introduction growing up as a poor immigrant family in Torrance, CA; wartime experience as a bombardier in the Pacific front; plane crash and subsequent survival of three men in a life raft for 45+ days; experiences in several Japanese POW camps with anticipated brutality, etc. The movie essentially end with the surrender of the Japanese and liberation of the prisoner camps. There is practically no coverage of Louie's life after his return to the US....spiritual or otherwise.
Still a good movie overall.

Skip the movie - read or reread the book. The movie was disappointing in my opinion.

I will rent the movie when it gets to Netflix and if I am interested, I will get the book from the library to read the rest of the story.

GREAT BOOK! In the book the spirituality was towards the end and not covered in as much detail as everything else. but man, what a story!

For the nourishing of the spirit, I find the bible is a good book to read.

The story is really amazing and I would recommend reading the book. The fact that there was so much to cover is why most directors shied away. Jolie took on a monumental project.

i decided to see the movie with friends and i really liked it very much...showed the strength of the human spirit. being italian i was also very proud that lou was a compare! a terrible reminder of man's inhumanity to man, however.

Very brutal movie but glad I saw it for the quality of its director's work, actors' work, etc. Sure paints some very nasty villains.
