Breast surgeon and oncologist

Is it really imperative to drive to Tampa to find outstanding breast surgeons and oncologists? With all the physicians we have nearby, there must be worthy doctors. Help!

Dr. Celia Nelson did my wife's breast cancer surgery. She is very patient focused and competent.

Radiation done at Inter Community Cancer Center on Rolling Acres.

Oncologist Dr. V. G. Iyengar.

Excellent care and cancer free for over 8 years right here in TV!

Also had Dr. Nelson for my surgery. Most kind and thoughtful surgeon I've ever met, and she and her staff are great IMHO. My oncologist is Dr. Thaper and he is kind and
has really taken good care of me. Cancer free for 3 years and counting.

You may find a specialist or two in this area that is well trained, and with the significant experience you need. Remember, we live in a small rural area where it is not easy to attract highly sought after, highly compensated specialists with families that are looking for a certain cosmopolitan lifestyle. At Moffitt Cancer Center In Tampa, a National Cancer Institute Hospital affiliated with The University of South Florida you will find many of the best in the country. You make the choice.

:agree: Well said. My wife and many we know used Moffitt. The best.

Dr. Nelson is highly regarded and I checked into her 3 years ago when I was diagnosed. But after I met with my oncologist, Dr. Tummala (who I thought very highly of) and he recommended Dr. Mascarenhas to be my surgeon, I proceeded in that direction. I am and was extremely happy with all my doctors and still am. Dr. Mascarenhas works out of Waterman hospital. My radiologist was the same as BTK's wife, Inter Community Cancer Center but I took my radiation in their Leesburg office and was very satisfied with their process and care.

Good luck, Geri317, and I hope and pray everything turns out well for you. If you have any additional questions, I'd be happy to answer them. Please PM me if you'd like.
